Toffoli for Maatta

Description

Maatta obviously need some fresh air and there's no better team to him reach his potential than play in a defensive-minded team like the Kings are. He would fit pretty well over there, cause he has a very good hockey IQ and has a very good upside.

Pens get his top 9 winger in Toffoli. He can play on both LW/RW. So, he iniatially could play with Sid and Guentzel. Then, eventually he could play in 3rd with Brassard and Hornqvist, with Sprong playing along Sid/Guentzel and Simon in 4th with Sheahan and Rust. La Due would be a good add as well. He's a decent puck-moving skills and he's solid at his own blue line as well.

Well, I'm not sure about Toffoli has more value than Maatta. Number 1: Maatta is younger. 2: He has 4 years left in his contract, when Toffoli has just 2. And number 3: D-man has higher market value than wingers. Ok, Toffoli is a more talented player, but not enough to has more value than Maatta when we consider all those things. At least not to me.

I really dont see LAK doing this, they need all the scoring they can get and adding a bottom pairing d for a guy who plays top 6 minutes is a bad move.

I agree. But they can make another move to improve their offense, then. They're a defensive-minded team. So, improve their D getting Maatta makes sense to me. Then, they could use Martinez and some good prospect and a pick to get a winger even better than Toffoli.

You're depreciating his upside. Any player with high hockey IQ have a good upside. That's Maatta case. Kings would be the best team to him reach his potential. And if he reaches (and I think he would), then this trade could be a steal for them. I know it's not a no-brainer trade. But it's something to think about it, for sure.

LA shouldn't be trying to trade the Pens. Olli is a good defenseman but he shouldn't be on the Kings per say.

Although value is on far, I don't think LA want another defenseman making 4M+.. they have struggled offensively, especially with the fact that they have no PPG. I think their main focus would be to add forwards. That is just my opinion. Good job on value though.

But as I said, they could trade someone like Martinez and some more assets to get an even better winger. I know Kings aren't the best option to Pens try to trade Maatta. But I think it's something that Kings could consider...

No, Martinez is a righty. Kings don't need defense and want more offense, the Kings honestly should try and retool and Maatta's a little old for that. While Toffoli or Pearson might be on the block, they probably want someone like Sprong or Simon. Also the Kings are heading towards cap hell and Maatta's contract while it isn't bad won't help it either. Brown's on LITR and when he comes back the Kings can't afford Olli.

They could use Muzzin, then. Muzzin has an even higher value and could be a good piece to get a very good winger. A top-6 even better than Toffoli.
