not a bad deal, think spurgeon would be a huge help for PIT and Sprong can be a huge help on minny's offense if he pans out. Plus a late first pick probably evens the value

Completely agree. I'm not sure how to feel about trading Spurgeon, he's a huge part of our blue line, but I think this team needs to get younger and bring in some speed. Sprong is certainly a risk, but he has a lot of potential.

Spurgeon is a huge piece for sure, hard to let go but if you need scoring it could help. Not meaning to take it back to Toronto like everything else, but as a Minnesota fan what would you think of A.Johnsson and a 1st for him? Fast scoring forward that has a little bit of age on sprong but may be more proven. I'd assume Toronto would need to add another lesser prospect

I like the 1st but my only gripe with Johnsson is that he's left handed. Charlie Coyle is our only right shot forward in our entire top 9 which has been a huge problem in the faceoff circle as well as scoring (particularly on the PP). Add in the fact we already have Zucker and Parise (also Niederreiter who can play both LW or RW but is currently at LW), and then the fact that Kaprizov will be here in 2 years, and you can see how much of a logjam we have for top 6 LW's. If anything I think Johnsson has a worse shot at making the lineup here than in Toronto. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that Johnsson could be a great player, but he doesn't fill a need for us and I think we only trade Spurgeon if we feel it fills a need. That's why I've made a million Nylander trade threads. I think you're spot on with value, though (Spurgeon for 2019 1st + Johnsson + meh prospect) I'm just not sure the Wild take that trade.

Yeah, I'll take "comments made by people who know absolutely nothing about Spurgeon or the Wild" for $800, Alex.

One big issue is that the Pens already have 7 D that need waivers and 1 additional D that is outplaying a few of those waiver D. This trade would give the 8+1.

Fair enough, absolutely the reason why this is a cool page, because you get the point of view looking from both fan bases. Kapanen would probably be a better piece for you guys then, absolute speedster that should be in a Top 6 spot, except he's not quite Nylander Marner level to take one in Toronto. I don't see Dubas pulling the trigger with him though, as he's a huge Kapanen fan (told PIT I'm not moving Kessel unless Kapanen is the starting piece). Moving Spurgeon is definitely deserving of a winger with star potential coming back though. Cheers.

That's the thing, people keep doing these trades over reacting trying to fill Schultz's spot... putting ZERO thought into what happens come February.

Don't worry Bettman will, when he moves the team to Quebec city or when the awful contracts of Parise and Suter cause another lockout.
