Because you are trading the 2nd line right winger who scored 16 goals as a rookie for a 2nd line right winger that scored 19 in his 5th year. Adding cap, shortening term. And throwing in a a former 1st and 3rd. All to gain what exactly? A bigger winger whose career high is 49 points. Heinen had 47 as a rookie. You aren’t gaining anything.

Well, I don't mind the thought of Bjugstad, but he isn't really that much of an upgrade (if at all) over Heinen. Bjugstad's career points high is 49, and he did that in his 5th season, playing with some serious talent. Heinen had 47pts that same year - which was his 1st in the league.

I am not sure giving up a very similar player, a former 1st rounder, and a 3rd rounder is worth it for 3 goals. His cap is 4X Heinen's and Heinen is still under control.

Bjugstad hasn't really played Center in three years, and although big, doesn't really play all that physical. I don't know anything about Schemitsch, but a quick look at his stats are very underwhelming.
