Nylander is not resigning, and the no one is going to pay him that much let alone the leafs who need to resign marner, mathews, and gardiner. Keep on dreaming

I completly agree, Nylander seems ti have no intreset in toronto, he has let his teammates, coach, and gm most likley, i wouldn be supprised to se him in carolina/another city soon. i also worry about how in shape he is not playing yet this year. he could have made a huge steo back from last year ust by not playing.

The cap hit for the Leafs if they did this would be under 7 Million next year and every year after. Also Nylander is running out of options this season if he wants to play. Most teams simply can't afford to sign him this season because of the information listed in the above link.

Leafs HAD to know they were losing someone after they gave Tavares that contract. I highly doubt Nylander ever suits up for the Leafs again and wouldn't be surprised if he ends up sitting this year. Nobody will give him $8 mil, he simply isn't worth that much at this stage in his career.

That's a crazy premise. What Nylander $$$ figure has nothing to do with Matthews and Marner. Leafs or any team that holds his NHL rights, wants to sign him to a reasonable contract. Gardiner is a UFA, and the Leafs can't afford or even the desire to pay him big long term money. Nylander's contract (or lack of one) stands alone, it isn't affected by the other players. If nothing else, if the Leafs have cap issues next year, a player can be traded quite easily, if they are signed to a reasonable contract. You said Nylander isn't resigning. Well then he plays or Europe, cause the Leafs hold his NHL rights for 5 years..(minus six weeks). So he he wants to play in the NHL it's for the Leafs or is traded to another team. PS. I agree with you 7.1m is on the high side.

Think you're right about the Leafs knowing they were going to lose someone after signing Tavares. But it doesn't have to this year or even next year. I look at the Tavares like this/
This Leafs signed Tavares for 11m. The other option would be sign Nylander for 7m and have 4 million to spend on another player. So the Leafs signed Tavares for 11m and then gets back some cheap assets but good assets such a player or two on ELC or high picks for a trade for Nylander.
Yes Nylander is not worth being paid the 4th highness RWer in the league.
