So to be clear, you are prepared to trade your captain to the Leafs for ONLY Zaitsev and Liljegren, no Nylander or any draft picks and you're retaining salary? Done deal!

No one is trading Robby Thomas for a goalie. No one is trading Robby Thomas for anything.

If Petro goes to TOR, Nylander or Marner comes back. If you make trade value based on a few weeks of performance, you're gonna have a bad time.

I don't think anyone is taking Jay Bouwmeester at this point.

Haha no way, I love it how you had it before. With 2 years left on his deal, I am not sure what he brings back. As a pure rental, he would probably get the Blues a 1st, good prospect and an NHLer, so perhaps you if you keep Grundstrom in, you change the 1st to a 2nd, or remove Grundstrom and leave the 1st?

Agree Thomas is not being traded for a goalie.. but saying he is not being trading for ANYTHING is not true. There is always a price high enough for every player not named McDavid, Matthews or Crosby.
Petro just doesnt make sense because our D would have a gaping hole on the right side if Parayko was our top RHD.

Blues are getting neither of Nylander or Marner for Pietrangelo. That's pure fantasy talk. Maybe if he had term on his deal, I could see Nylander, but you are never getting Marner.

Would you really want to give up Liljegren, a first, Zaitsev and Grundstrom for 1.5 years of Pietrangelo? He's going to be a FA at 30 and be expecting a huge contract that he could not possibly expect to live up too. This is the definition of short sighted moves.

Nylander at 7m is probably better value than Marner at 10m like everyone is saying these days, but that's none of my business. I know Petro isnt a perfect fit in TOR but I was just stressing that a bunch of garbage isnt gonna get the deal done.

The original deal that was posted was only Liljegren and Zaitsev. I think the Leafs make that deal no question, especially with Blues retaining some salary. With the edited deal, I am not sure the Leafs make such a move.

Petro's value isn't as high as you think it would be, he's too close to 30 and his next contract will be a nightmare. Any trade for him would cost way too much and assuredly become a bad team unless TO won the cup this season. After next season you either give him a bad contract that pays for what he used to be or you lose him for nothing and have zero replacements for the guys you gave up to get him. There is not trade here. The two teams are going in opposite directions and TO taking on Petro for the package you suggest essentially shortens TO's window and gives St Louis a huge reboot. I am sure some GM's would do that but not Dubas, not now atleast, he has too much time to work with.

Edmonton, or Montreal on the other hand are teams with a shorter window and GM's far more desperate than Dubas.

You also don't just move your captain when he's having an outlier of a season. Don't be the Leafs and Phaneuf, although I guess that was a bit of a different situation. I think Petro stays and resigns with the Blues.

I think we agree but just say things differently, there isn't the right fit for a trade here. The teams are in different situations and it doesn't make a lot of sense to make a trade like this.
