It essentially a pile of 4th liners lol. The best piece has never popped 30+ points...POINTS, not even goals points. You're taking a roughly 20 game snap shot and not considering things like contract, age or upside.
Heinen - As a rookie he had 47pts. He can play LW/RW, all situation and jumps between the 2nd and 3rd line. He's a 23yr old 2-way winger that gives the team flexibility with how they roll out their lines
Bjork - Hobby Baker finalist that Bergeron is a big fan of. In fact Bergeron likes his game so much that last season he advocated for Bjork to be his RW. Of course Bjork got hurt and missed most of the season, but when Bergeron is impressed with your game, that says something. Not to mention, like Heinen though he's a 2-way LW/RW that can play in all situation and gives the team flexibility.
Backes - I'm not on the bash Backes train. He's a had rough go since coming to Boston. Between serious health issues, concussion and gash in his leg, he's just had an up hill battle. Even with all that he's still had a 0.58 P/GP pace (which is roughly 50 points over 82 games).
Bjork and Heinen are at minimum top 9 wingers that can play top 6 roles. Again everything you've offered would be 4th liners on Boston, so that's why Boston says no. Your DPS/OPS stuff doesn't mean anything to me. You're more than welcome to your opinion, but Sweeney wouldn't even entire a trade like this because it does nothing to help the team.
Just looking at things like OPS/DPS/PS you would say this deal makes sense right?
TO SJS - Dennis Cholowski
TO DET - Erik Karlsson
OPS
DC - 0.6
EK - 0.8
DPS
DC - 0.8
EK - 0.6
PS
DC - 1.4
EK - 1.4
SJS can replace Karlsson's PS and save themselves roughly $6 million and get younger, right?
You picked a bad example because I wasn't big on Karlsson leaving Ottawa asthe transition was bound to be rough. Ottawa had built the entire way that the team played so that they could maximize EK. SJS has Burns, Pavelski, and Couture. They weren't going to be able to maximize EK. Boston can't maximize Heinen and Bjork. They won't get the potential out of them that is possible because neither are natural RWs and Marchand , Krejci, Debrusk, and Bergeron take out the top two C and LW positions. I think that Heinen has great potential, and he is worth a lot to other teams, but he's not worth as much on Boston. I'm not sold on Bjork. Just because you can be elite in the NCAA doesn't mean that you'll score in the NHL. Look at Jimmy Vesey and Rodrigues for a couple good examples of that. Backes is 34 and isn't getting any younger, faster, or better. He'll improve as the season moves on, but not to even a value of 4 million let alone six. A couple six million players around the league are Ehlers, Panarin, Forsberg, Duchene, Eberle, Hopkins, Hall, Pavelski etc. Even Saad, Loui Eriksson, and Lucic who are considered to be on terrible contracts can still provide 35-45 point seasons. Backes has had his ice time and PP time cut and that is hurting his production. I already said that the skill tips in Vancouver's direction, this is a cap dump situation. Also, Boston is not slumping. They are on track to score over 100 points again. It's not like Backes, Bjork, and Heinen are on a team that's struggled out of the gate and is bound to be better.
