Could this Fetch Martinez Read Description

Created by: KingLundqvist30
Team: 2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 28, 2018
Published: Nov. 28, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Here are the Pros to this trade

1) Martinez has been linked to the Leafs for quite some time

2) That is one less contract that the leafs have to resign.

3) This would make sense for both teams. Martinez would push the leafs over to be an all star team (Even though they already are) and that’s where the conditional pick comes into play.

This does not make sense for the Kings. The Leafs are statistically unlikely to win a cup so they're giving up a top 4 defenceman with term for a rental and what's likely going to be a back end 2nd round pick? I think LA counters with something more substantial in the realm of prospects and picks.

1st off to the person who posted the AGM THAT IS WAY too much for Martinez but yes I wouldn't totally mind him being a Leaf.

2nd to you... Kings definitely don't say no but I think they'd prefer picks and prospects. Maybe like a Timashov and/or Holl plus a pick. Leafs could totally win a cup this year and that's the 1st time in my life I remember saying that. Well saying it and believing it cause yes that's 2 different things.

So 1 star for not only WAY overpaying but also trading for pieces LA doesn't want. That'd be like Leafs trading for superstar goaltending.

I don't see Martinez going to the Leafs, as they don't really have the pieces the Kings would want/need.

They need a quality top-six NHL-ready forward and/or a top four right-handed defenseman. Toronto is light on RHD as well, so that's not gonna work. Kapanen, Nylander, & Kadri all would fit, but Toronto isn't going to give up one of those guys for Martinez.

The Kings won't be able to afford Gardiner's extension, so in your trade proposal, the Kings would only be getting a 60ish overall pick in exchange for a quality second pairing defenseman signed to a team-friendly contract with term remaining. I think they'd rather just keep Martinez.

1st off if you look at the kings roster and prospect pool they are either going into rebuild or need to get just younger. Though they will not be interested in Gardiner nor should the leafs give him up he will be a JVR situation like last season the leafs consider him a in house rental. Also, i do think the leafs have alot of depth in forwards and aa couple of intriguing nhl ready AHLers that LA might like. if Blake and co want to restructure the team they might want Brown, Borgman (or Rosen) in the deal. I also think if LA want the leafs 1st they will need to retain money not cause Martinez is overpaid but the leafs will have about 3 million to spend on a solid vet dman next year.

Leafs need Gardiner this year. They certainly need all their good puck carrier Dmen. So in effect the trade for Gardiner for Martinez this year. No thanks from the Leafs. If the Leafs keep all their forwards next year, the Leafs don't have the cap for Martinez, without other. moves.

Gardiner is an underrated player. Some Leafs fans love/hate him. Leafs say no to this deal. Why would the Leafs propose this deal?
