I think Maatta and DeAngelo are similar in value, but Namestnikov is worth more than Sprong. I think just changing some picks around would make it a bit more fair:

Namestnikov, DeAngelo, 3rd round pick

for

Maatta, Sprong, two 2nd round picks

I think Sprong is valuable, just is not getting a chance with PIT.. but I do not know if Pens would give that much.. maybe Pens give 2nd and get a 6th back? Or Pens supply pick and Rangers dont.

Maatta is absolutely not on the same level as DeAngelo. I don't know how you even came to that conclusion. Explain. Maatta has been top 4 for years. DeAngelo can hardly crack top 4 on a bad NY defense.

DeAngelo is a bit younger and has more upside than Maatta imo. This is the first season that hes been given a decent chance at a top 4 role and hes playing very well so far (if he didnt miss games he would be on pace to score 38 points in a full 82 game season)

I think Maatta is still the better defenseman but he isnt worth much more in terms of value.

I do think Maatta knows the top 4 position better, but Pens have dumo and JJ. I think getting an RHD and a LW can be huge for Pens. DeAngelo would be playing 3rd pairing once Schultz is back.
