Description
NYI will probably want roster players back instead of picks for Okposo because they are ready to contend and not rebuild. Kuntiz isn't a UFA like Okposo and is going to be less expensive. Adding in Lovejoy fills out their bottem pairing, Zlobin is a decent prospect and the 3rd round pick is a filler.

TML get what they want for Kessel in a roster player, prospect, 1st round pick and a 3rd round pick for retaining 1mill.

Trading Spaling and the rights to Martin and Ehrhoff get the Pens much needed draft picks.

Sign UFA's Comeau, Downie, Gonchar and Stoll to one year deals to fill out the bottom of the roster and to have room to resign Okposo at seasons end.

Comeau and Downie, I thought played well for the Pens last year and are familiar with the systems so that rules out bringing in anyone else.

Gonchar can quarterback the PP instead of Letang, letting Letang use his wicked shot as more of a trigger man. This should result in less turnovers on the PP.

Stoll could very well be the biggest steal of this years UFA class. Because of his arrest he should come cheap. He's good at face-offs, is a good leader and has the "been their factor" which could help the Pens.

Resign Cole and Dumoulin for 2-3 year deals so that way they can be here for more than 1 year and on relatively friendly cap hits.

Finally, let the youngsters, Sundqvist, Sheary, Rust, Pouliot, Dumoulin and Cole play. They bring mush needed youth to an aging Pens lineup and some fresh hungry legs.

Not a bad roster, but there are a few problems.

1st, Martin and Ehrhoff and Unrestricted Free Agents. Thus, we can't trade the rights to them, because any team has rights to sign them.

2nd, while either of the deal for the top 6 you posted could make sense, I don't think the Pens make both of the moves. They would get either Okposo or Kessel, not both. It would bring up some major cap issues when Okposo needs resigned to have that much tied into your top 6.

3rd, I wouldn't touch Jarret Stoll with a 5280 foot pole, no matter how cheap he is. He would be a toxic situation to our locker room and the Pens appearance to the rest of the league.

Too many LW so Kessel and Perron are out of position. Trades away the future and asks a depleted prospect pool to play meaningful minutes. No one is trading for rights because of the new contact period.

Not a shot in hell Snow trades Okposo within the division. Especially to Pittsburgh. He's also a RW.

My feedback is... this is terrible. smile

Actually you can trade UFA rights. Happened with Dan Boyle last year. It just allows teams to negotiate with the players until free agency (they don't have to wait for the negotiating window.

But with the new contact period prior to the draft no one actually needs negotiating rights anymore...

You can, but given that UFA signings start so soon, no one is going to give up picks, especially thirds, to negotiate early.
