There is no such thing as sign and trades during the season, especially among contenders. Why would Minni make this trade?

Horrible for the Wild. Dumba will cost you Nylander+, which is an overpayment for Toronto (and very foolish). In reality Dumba and Nylander are pretty close to equal in value. We have no incentive to move Dumba so that's why Toronto would have to overpay to get him.

The fact Dumba is on the third pairing shows me you know basically nothing about him. He's a top pairing player and would give Rielly a run for his money on a team like Toronto. Rielly is a better passer but Dumba has a superior shot and physicality.

I agree with all of this. Dumba would be a great compliment beside Rielly but no, that package isn’t close to getting him. I would have been more than ok to do a Dumba-Nylander based deal. Might still happen in a couple years.

I've been a proponent of getting Nylander on the Wild for a long time, even before this whole contract fiasco (I'm a massive fan of the way he plays), but as of now we can't afford to trade Dumba, even in a few years. We have a bunch of decent RHD prospects but none of them project to be top pairing players. I don't think Spurgeon is a part of our future plans once his contract expires (I think we'll try to trade him next offseason) so if we traded Dumba and Spurgeon we're pretty boned for NHL capable RHD (unless we went all in for Karlsson in the offseason which isn't happening). If we could afford to give up Dumba, I'd 100% be all for trading him.

With all of that said, I'd be worried about acquiring Nylander in a few years. The reason I say that is because I think he should play center if he were on the Wild since we don't have any clear 1C capable candidates to eventually replace Staal/Koivu. Nylander has center playing capabilities and if he played the position while he's still young and "moldable" I think he'd develop into a fine 1C. Nylander will obviously be attached to Matthews hip as long as he's in Toronto, which means he would develop purely as a winger. If the Wild had traded for him this year, we could have placed him at 2C/3C to let him develop a year before bringing him up to 1C full time. We would probably ruin his production if we did that when he's say 25 versus 22.

Ya. He definitely wants to play C so I’m sure he’d be willing to make the switch either with another team or if Kadri ends up leaving at some point
