Meh. I think the refs got it right, 2 minute penalty. Virtanen wasn't defenseless, he looked right at Pateryn not once, but twice before he got hit. Pateryn sort of got him in the side so that's how I can see it as a boarding penalty but Virtanen definitely knew what was coming. Virtanen just seems to crumble as soon as Pateryn made contact... I don't think Pateryn was trying to end his life or anything, lol. I know I'm a Wild fan so you'll probably think I'm biased, but I'd say the exact same thing if this were a Wild player.

I agree the 2 min boarding was the right call. It was a bad/dumb hit. Live I would have understood a 5 min major for the hit. Replays make it look a lot less worse.

I said the same thing live, the 5 minute penalty, but on the replay you can clearly see Virtanen check where Pateryn is twice and he kind of turns his body towards the boards which made it a boarding penalty. I definitely think Pateryn deserved the penalty, but I don't think he had malicious intent (which would have warranted th 5 minute penalty had that been the case).

Dude, I would have been pissed if I was a Nuks fan and saw just the hit live. The replays are needed to tell the whole story.

it looks like he barely hit him. You can see him try to catch his own force with his hands on the boards. If anything I would have given the other player 2 minutes for embellishment.
