This is an awful deal for the Wild and the Leafs can't afford to take on this much cap if they want to keep Matthews and Marner. I wouldn't mind a deal centered around Kapanen+ for Spurgeon, but there's no way we throw in Coyle and Nino for a bunch of depth pieces as the + portion.

Why does everyone keep trading Horton?? He’s on LTIR & doesn’t count against the cap. The Leafs just have to pay him & they can, that’s why they traded Clarkson for him to free up cap room.

I love spurgeon and believe he is the perfect type of underrated player that the leafs need... But kapanen+ other assets is not happening. If the leafs are going to upgrade their blueline it will not come at the expense of their forwards unless that name is brown. Kapanen and johnsson arent going anywhere. They are young and cheap and both have a reasonable chance at being signed to team friendly ish deals.

Also just clarifying im not suggesting brown for spurgeon. Im saying he would be the forward packaged in a deal that had a pick or liljegren. I believe they are high on sandin.

I don't see the Leafs moving Kapanen either but that would be the ask for Spurgeon. Can't see us wanting Liljegren since RD is our deepest and strongest position for our prospect pool.
