I would say that ottawa should take pick out and 1-for-1 is fair deal. Ceci is a bum and at least Gudbranson is good defensively.

I dont know about WSH deal. I dont really know Burakovskys value at the moment.

As the Caps fan who keeps posting that they need PK help, I have no idea what they actually want. Only that their PK% ranks 27th out of 31 teams. Some playoff games have no penalties, so they might not care, but I think effective PK players have speed, defensive wisdom, and reaction time that can help out at evens, as well.

If they want to fix what's wrong with their PK, they should ask for Ben Hutton and Tyler Motte.

I don't know how Burakovsky's value compares to theirs, but two young, quick penalty killers with good defensive positioning have a very good chance of improving Washington's PK, together, and continuing to improve it over time, even as Burakovsky has a very good chance, on a team that believes in him and doesn't change his linemates every week, of scoring 20 to 30 goals a year for the next decade.

My guess is that Washington adds a depth defensive prospect like Lewington or Bindulis. I would try not to bring up Djoos unless he's out for the season and the team feels its window is closing.

The on-paper value is decent on Grandlund, plus picks and prospects, but the Caps have enough wing depth to bench Burakovsky, win games, and leave Cup-winning offensively skilled wings Nate Walker and Shane Gersich in the AHL. Granlund is playing a lot of PK minutes, but he and MDZ seem to be making too many mistakes there, so far this year. Hutton and Motte are quietly showing they can play, defensively, and I think that's more valuable to Washington right now than Granlund's offensive skill and big shorthanded minutes. Burakovsky's 23, with 127 career points. Motte is 23 with 22. Hutton is 24 with 63. Granlund is 25 with 88 in about as many games as Burakovsky.

I think Grandlund straight up for Burakovsky is fair. Both will be RFAs at the end of the season, but Burakovsky will be qualified with $3M and Granlund is less than half. I’m not sure Burakovsky merits that much money + Grandlund would be a better fit as a middle six player.

I didn't say it was unfair. I said it doesn't add what the Capitals need, and I countered with Hutton and Motte for Burakovsky and Lewington.

I wasn't referencing your post. I don't think the deal you proposed is reasonable from a Vancouver perspective. Hutton is averaging about 20min per game and has a very reasonable salary. Young defensemen are more valuable than wingers. I think Motte is better than Lewington and younger... so no on your offer.

If you wan't Hutton and Motte, I think Burakovsky + Alexeyev is reasonable.

Thanks.

As long as we're within picks and prospects, what do you think of Siegenthaler, so far? wink

Seriously, though... what about Burakovsky and Djoos?

Canucks a rebuilding so they need to get younger assets. I think Grandlund straight up for Burakovsky is fair.

I wouldn't take Granlund for Dowd. Djoos is 24 with a Cup. He's a puck possession wiz and a solid #5D on a first place team in a tough division, but he's injured.

Granlund is learning to play defense at 25 because he's only had one season over 10 even strength goals, and can no longer get top nine ice time on a team that has options at wing. He's played 97 minutes shorthanded, but he's given up 18 power play goals in that span, which is bad. While shorthanded he has zero hits, four blocks, four shots, one assist, 7 faceoffs won, and 21 faceoffs lost.

Trade him to a team desperate enough for wings to claim one on waivers with three points, that need a Finnish-speaking forward to mentor a recent 4th overall pick.

If you need a middleman in that, sure, involve the Caps. They'll take Hutton and Motte, and give out Burakovsky. Figure out what you want from Edmonton for Granlund and Burakovsky, and get back to the internet about it, post-haste.

You are grossly undervaluing Alexeyev. Burakovsky and Lewington is much closer in value. Caps hang up instantly if Hutton is the return on Alexeyev
