Bura to AZ

Created by: Eli
Team: 2018-19 Washington Capitals
Initial Creation Date: Dec. 16, 2018
Published: Dec. 16, 2018
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I put one experienced defenseman on each pair so l could roll all three at evens, and hopefully, eventually on PK too, once Bowey figures that out. Orlov, Niskanen, and Carlson are each arguably #1 defensemen, so playing two of them together only makes sense in home games.

This trade just does absolutely nothing for the Caps. If AZ wants Bura, ask for a guy like Crouse or Hinostraza to start, but Richardson and Connauton don't have roles with the team at all and are a waste of cap

Yeah, I'd definitely take Crouse. I just figured he was out of reach.

Hinostroza hasn't been as big a part of AZ's PK as Crouse, Richardson, and Connauton. I figured Burakovsky is worth about two 2nds, and a deadline rental on each of them couldn't go as high as a 3rd, so if other teams aren't offering immediate PK help, and if a 2nd is worth two 3rds... then getting two decent guys off AZ's 2nd unit would be good for the Caps, whose PK is rankes 27th, and is missing Orpik.

I know next to nothing about Crouse except that he's a recent high pick who's doing well on the PK, but also takes too many penalties. Long term, adding a guy with a high ceiling probably makes more sense. Short term, just adding two guys on cheap two year deals who don't take as many penalties and have little enough value that they'd come with a 2nd round pick seems good enough to me? But please, post better ideas. I don't know much.

Honestly not sure what people are blowing up about. Connauton is incredible on the PK, in a matchup role, and has decent offense as shown by hitting the double digits in goals. Richardson is an expert on the PK and is taking 68% of his starts in the D zone. And he’s on track to score over 30 points. If Connauton agreed to an extension this is more than worth it for the Caps. And maybe ARZ can retain 100-200K on one of the players. Richardson and Connauton go on the PK and play matchups. Now Oshie comes of the PK and can play offensively at even strength. Backstrom, Kuznetsov, and Boyd also come off the PK. So does Niskanen. I love this trade for the Caps. I honestly think ARZ is the team that might have to think more about this.

Thanks so much, @NucksFanForLife . Yeah. AZ probably would rather deal a prospect than a pick, as they're low in the standings and all the way up at the contract limit. Not sure whom they'd move, though.
