They wouldn't use up all their draft picks, but if they would, trading would be much easier, because all teams like draft picks.

Burakovsky and DSP are bottom 6 players, why would Edmonton give up a 1st for them?

Couterier is a top 12 center in the league on a steal of a contract, no way the Flyers trade him, especially not to a division rival

a: DSP had seven playoff goals last year. Chiasson had one.

b: over the last four seasons, Burakovsky is in the top 186 forwards in G, A, P, P/60, ESG, etc. How many top-six forwards are in a 31 team league?

c: for two 1sts, it might be close? He's doing great with their big guys this year and last year he finished 15th in points among listed centers, but over the last four seasons combined, he's 43rd in points among listed centers. The Flyers have great centers on the way up and need more great young peripheral players. If the team's thinking big rebuild up front, maybe? The Caps, would have to throw in some halfway decent prospects, I'm sure. Maybe Gersich and Walker.

If you believe some of the talk about the demise of the world central banks and nations currencies, we are heading into a barter system very soon.

Lol. I don't. They seem to crash every few years and then recover.

I think Burakovsky would average 25 goals a year in Edmonton, and Smith Pelly should chip in 15. It's possible the Caps have to add Siegenthaler to get that first, though. I just hope they don't have to take back Spooner, but if they do, maybe they can add a 3rd to get Philly to try him out?

@cap2018champs I agree that they don't need Edmonton's first, but I woke up too early this morning and started thinking about how much easier it is to make changes to any team if all the trades were for picks instead of player for player. I don't know whether Couturier is even someone they need, but he's arguably more of a two-way player than Burakovsky this year, and arguably more of a top line talent this year, and there's no way they'd get him for just Burakovsky and a 1st, form the Flyers. Adding the ripple of Edmonton's 1st draft pick means the rebuilding Flyers have a small chance at a second lottery pick, so they suddenly might be motivated to deal. Does that make more sense, now?

You know and I know that it's a bad gamble because we know Burakovsky's a brilliant goal scorer who just needs top six minutes with a good center and power play time to get fifty points this year. We know adding him to the Oilers makes them a definite playoff team. If we know that and Edmonton knows that, but if Philly or St. Louis thinks they know better, and thinks Burakovsky is not a legitimate top line talent, then Edmonton's pick on the day after Edmonton trades it for Burakovsky could look to them like a potential top ten pick and might land Couturier or Tarasenko, either of whom, for the next couple years at least, should be upgrades over Burakovsky in whatever role the team uses them.

There is no way the flyers move him and to the Caps no less. Also, he would end up having to play on the wing instead of maximizing his talent as a center. Caps really don't need any centers. There are certain moves I could see for Burakovsky going to sellers to get a top 4 D Man in return, but I really don't want the Caps to make any moves this deadline unless a long term injury arises. We have D depth if Djoos comes back anytime before March given that Orpik and Siegenthaler make 8 solid D, and we already have 2 scratches upfront right now in Stephenson & Burakovsky.
