Description
What people don't seem to be understanding is that you need to shed some cap space to sign McAvoy, Donato, Heinen, others. You are going to possibly have to lose Carlo, DeBrusk. In the Blues trade you give up a lot, but you also shed some space. You would have to give up DeBrusk, Carlo, a first, and Rask in order to obtain Schenn and Parayko. Their deals are already in place. You'd also have to take on Allen's contract. This trade not only gives you space, but allows you to stay competitive now and for the future. Halak has done enough to be the starter, and maybe Allen is better served in a supplemental role until he finds his game again. Fresh start for two keepers.

Simmonds is just a no-brainer for the right wing slot. Would love him re-signed if possible. Love his game, love his grit. He's a true Bruin.

What? There's like 200 mocks here showing how to deal with the cap. DeBrusk is up in '20, not now. At that point you can move Backes or even buy him out. The cap is up over 3 mil next year only and possibly more after. It's not unlikely we get a lockout after that. Re-signing Simmonds is going to cost you more than any of the RFA's bar maybe McAvoy and Wayne will be worse than Bjork in what, 2 years?
It's a downgrade in goal, downgrade by trading Krug who's not that far behind Parayko AND Carlo for him. Schenn is one of the more overrated forwards in the game because of what Tarasenko did to him last season, I don't think DeBrusk is far behind him at this point and is cost controlled for a bunch of years. This makes no sense at all - the only piece you want over term is Parayko, and you're giving up DeBrusk, Carlo, Krug and Rask for that? Oh and a first?

Have you seen Krug skate backwards? Did you watch the Panthers game? He got walked around by multiple DEFENSEMEN (i.e. Mike Matheson). He's a PP specialist. That's it. Parayko is a substantial upgrade. And Jake Allen wouldn't be the starter in this scenario? Halak is.. Halak pretty much already is now? So, 7 million a year for Rask seems a little outrageous for a backup (not like Allen's is much better, but it's up sooner!).

Also, do you follow the Blues? Tarasenko was free-wheeling last year. He refused to play in the system and listen to the coaches. He actually was called out by Schenn and other players.. Perhaps that's why Tarasenko is on the block? Why would a guy with that much potential be on the block?

Schenn is a two-way center who can plug in as a winger. You can shift him all over the line-up, including PK. DeBrusk is solely a goal-scoring winger. Completely different games. So, I'm not sure how DeBrusk is that much behind him when they're completely different. Also, 3 deep at center seems to be the way to go nowadays.

Also, Bjork will not be better than Simmonds. Ever. Stop being such a homer, watch the games with an honest eye.

Boston doesn't do either of these as re-signing their RFA's won't be a problem

The Bruins aren't going to lose DeBrusk or Carlo, that's just stupid. There is plenty of cap room if Backes is offloaded and these trades make the team worse. DeBrusk is going to be nearly as good as Schenn when he hits his ceiling and Carlo is going to be nearly as good as Parayko defensively when he hits his ceiling. Why give up Krug a 1st and Rask for a crappy cap dump goalie? If you think I'm being a homer: DeBrusk has .36 goals per game Schenn has .24, edge DeBrusk. Carlo: 53.1 Corsi Parayko 49.2 Corsi. Parayko is better on the PP obviously, but you included Krug who's better than him on the PP in the deal so it nullifies any potential gain by adding Parayko. I don't even need to compare the goalies because Rask's career numbers .922 S% and 2.27GAA are better than Carey Price's .918S% 2.48 or Bobrovsky .919S% 2.46GAA or Rinne .919S% 2.36GAA or basically anyone else lol. The trade is just brutal for the Bruins.
