<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Heiskanen4Vezina</b></div><div>That was kind of my thought behind the trade. Nutivaara is getting buried on the depth chart due to Jones & Savard ahead of him. I honestly think Tortorella is going to role with Texier as 2C as early as next season. His breakthrough has lessened the need for a 2C. He's essentially the Blue Jackets version of Roope Hintz (Stars 2C).</div></div>
Hintz >> Texier from what I've seen and it isn't really close at all. I think Texier needs more seasoning as a possible 3rd C option but he can't make it against the other teams top lines imo. Maybe if Wennberg has a good offseason they won't even need a #2 C though.

The deal kinda makes sense from the viewpoint that Seth Jones is going to play a lot of ice time (25-26Minutes) and then Savard can play 20 minutes so they really only need a 14 or 15 minute defender as their other RD.
I think they'd feel more comfortable with a 1 for 1 for someone to be their new 2nd line C once Duchene leaves. I don't see Felhaber having enough value right now for them to do the deal, but it does offer some talent for their good player.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>babouie</b></div><div>its the cap hit that counts and minnesota has cap problems</div></div>
It's only the cap hit for upper limit teams. There's almost always like 30% of the league with more than 6M cap space. Maybe more.
The Wild have cap space issues if they are bringing in Backes without moving someone, but they should trade Spurgeon for someone on an ELC of 1st rounder. They're basically retooling / rebuilding so it doesn't make sense to keep him and risk losing him for nothing. I was factoring that into this because The Wild wouldn't bring in Kevan Miller if they were keeping Pateryn and Spurgeon.

Actually he is being paid 2.5M per year in the next 2 years after his bonus is paid out after which point he'd be traded. 1M for that season and 4M the following. I figured you'd be smart enough to figure it out but honestly that's truthfully whats being paid. The hit isn't whats being paid he was front loaded. Honestly you're probably between 19-12 so you're a fool lol. Grow up and figure out what someones talking about before going on the attack, it'll go better for you when you're older because you won't be so foolish.

I think it's a lot more easy than if he costed 6M each year. People aren't realizing that fact, they just assume he's being paid the same amount as his hit. 2 assists in 5 games isn't bad for a 3rd / 4th liner, I don't get your point in that. It'd be .40 points per game which is solid as hell for a 3rd liner.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dca919</b></div><div>The Bruins (68.696M to 19 players with only the RFA d-men to really worry about) aren't in cap hell like Tampa.
Tampa is in so much salary cap trouble (71.123M committed to 16 players. With a significant raise due to 40 goal scorer RFA Brayden Point. Plus 3 d-men slots to fill. Oh and they have to leave room to re-sign Vasilevskiy, Sergachev, and Cernak the following year so taking on multi-year contracts becomes an issue. ).
And the way the Wings get a first is to include Trevor Daley and retain 50% of his salary. 1.583M cap hit for a 3rd pair d-man and taking Callahan's contract. Assuming Callahan didn't block a trade to Detroit this year on his MNTC list (and Yzerman would know that already). This solves Detroit's need to let its 2 defensive prospects play minutes in the NHL (Cholowski and Hronek).</div></div>
Tampa Bay can go ahead and trade Yanni Gourde or JT Miller for some high end assets like players on ELC's. They can also resign their older defensemen for less then they paid them this past season. Everyone acts like Tampa needs to keep all their assets and win now, but if they're smart they'll keep their picks and trade some prime age talent for ELC's or 1st round picks. They could probably get a 1st for either Gourde or Miller and thats the way to extend your window. Nobody good on the Lightning is even 30 yet lol. Stamkos 29, McDonagh 29, Johnson 28, Hedman 28, Palat 28, everyone else is younger except the old UFA Dmen that'll be affordable if they want to win.

Colin Miller probably has the value of a 2nd round pick. I don't see him bringing back 3 assets unless one of them is a total dump or no-name. Brown kind of stinks, but not enough to have to pay the team a 3rd to take him imo.

Yes these signings make zero sense. There isn't any advantage to them for the Bruins and the team has all the leverage right now so this isn't very useful.
The trades aren't outrageous, but I think Moore brings back less than that and Backes probably doesn't have Ottawa on his 8 team trade list.

Colin Millers numbers are better than his play. I'm a Bruins fan so I got to see him a lot a couple years ago and there was a reason why the team protected Kevan Miller over Colin Miller.
Kevan Miller offers what you seem to be looking for and he could be available. He can play up to 20 minutes a night and is a defensive guy who can fight. He's like a better version of Adam McQuaid and the price would probably be a 4th + 7th. (the same thing McQuaid was traded for from Boston) Clifton has emerged as a solid RHD for Boston and the 7th Defenseman is likely to be John Moore, so the Bruins don't have to keep Miller and might be able to make use of the extra 2.5M in cap space that moving him would create.

He'll get more elsewhere. Also two huge names in UFA are Panarin and Duchene. If you can't sign them when they're already apart of your team, you have zero chance to get anyone else. Who would think of Hockey when talking about Ohio anyways? Usually people think of terrible pro football with the Browns and Bengals stinking it up for the last 20 or so years.

Why would you want to keep Mojo? He really hasn't been that good at all for the Bruins and he'll cost over 4M per year. To me, he's like a slightly more offensive Heinen and personally I'm not paying 4-5M for that. Heinen will probably sign for around half that amount. I'd rather just go with guys like Bjork, Kuhlman and Cehlarik to see if they develop. If none of them pop you can bring in someone at the deadline which most playoff teams do anyways.

Philly with TOR and CAR trades
If Simmonds only gets 2.8M teams have finally caught on to the "power forward's wear down earlier than other skaters" theory. I believe it's true, but I think some team will be foolish enough to give him over 4M for atleast 4 years given the fact he's only 30. Look at what JVR, Backes and Lucic got as UFA's and I'm not saying those are good deals, but it'd be crazy for teams to go from offering a healthy 6M+ for more term to offering only 2.8m for 4 years.

Stinking at Hockey knows no age and is very familiar with Garret Sparks. I don't think Leafs Fans are being realistic by putting him in trades. What exactly has the guy proven to you other then making you sure you don't want him as your backup. If you haven't proven anything you have zero value. Sparks shouldn't be desirable enough to give up a pick for, he's more like waiver wire material.

LOL @ a team giving up a first round pick to acquire Lucic at any cap hit. He fits best as a 4th liner. That trade would be in the running for worst deadline deal of all time. Like 1st round pick for Paul Gaustad bad or Forsberg for Erat bad lol.

Backes has a Modified NTC where he can basically pick where he's going. He has to waive for 8 teams, but unfortunately I don't see any way in hell he'd be waiving to go to Ottawa. They stink right now and it's Canada. For an American forward Canada is a less attractive place to play most of the time, especially in this case because Ottawa is so terrible and their Owner seems to be a moron who's also somehow an egomaniac.

I don't think there is any chance you get a 1st for one year of Callahan. As a Bruins fan I wouldn't give up more than a 2nd to get rid of Backes and his hit is for an extra year. He's a comparable player to Callahan as well; basically a 3rd / 4th liner now. The real money owed to Callahan is 4.7M dollars next season and Backes costs 5M over 2 years if traded after his bonus is paid out which makes them similar values. Most cap floor teams don't worry about the hit a player has, but they do worry about the actual money being paid to the player because it effects how much money the owner makes.

If the Lightning need to cut cap, help them really cut cap: By Taking Callahan in exchange for them trading you Yanni Gourde. Maybe you send back a 3rd or prospect to them to even it out, but at least you get an established player to help sell tickets. I think I did a search for Bruins games a year or two ago and somehow ended up looking at the prices to an away game that was in Detroit by accident and they had a lot more tickets for way more reasonable prices than the Bruins offer at the TD Garden. That made me think they have problems selling out and getting a skilled player like Gourde could make the team better which should make ticket sales go up. That's what I would shoot for if I was making a trade with TB.
