Never going to happen because of Doughty's 11,000,000 salary. If Toronto would acccecpt this trade then LA would have to retain 1/2 or 3/4 of Doughty's salary .

Why?

Isn't a good reason not to trade for Doughty is he is not worth of being paid among top the 3 players next year and for the following 7 years.

His value goes down as his salary goes up.

Example: Rielly @ 5M is considerably better than Doughty @ 11M because of what you can do with the 6M on cap.
Likewise for Matthews. MacKinnon or Scheifele at 6Mish are considerably more valuable than Matthews @ 12M

In a cap world, bang for your buck is extremely important.

You can't retain more than 50% salary. No way any team retains $5.5 million over 8 years. If Toronto really wanted Doughty, they might be able to arrange something like Pittsburgh did with Vegas in the Brassard trade. Give up an asset for 10% retention among several teams

That return for Doughty is pretty reasonable. 2 1sts, a quality prospect, and a proven top six forward is about what it would take.
