No thanks. You should really title this trade JAD, as he'd be the prize of the trade. There's no way you get the Kings to retain half of Martinez's salary. They're just as cap crunched as the Leafs.

I think they might do it depending on the return.
Maybe not the above return, and maybe remove the prospect from the trade too.

Martinez would probably cost Kapanen and a 2nd. Upgrade the pick to a 1st if you want them to retain $2M in salary for 2+ years. You can throw in Hainsey if you want as a cap dump, but he doesn't add any value to the trade.

I think LA would consider this trade if they only had to retain $500K - $750K of Martinez contract. That still keeps his cost low for the Leafs at $3.5M per for the next 2-years. I would then put Zaitsev with Rielly as he seems to play better with him than any other d-man on the roster - case in point his first year with the Leafs. The first round draft pick would be a fair trade for Jaret Anderson-Dolan.

So if the 1st is for JAD, then that means the trade is a 2nd and a 3rd round pick, both of which are for future drafts, for a retained Martinez? Not enough.
