The NMC doesn't have to travel with Lucic unless Vancouver allows it... which they won't. He can be exposed to Seattle.

That rule only works if a player is traded BEFORE the clause kicks in (this happens with young players signing long term deals). If your NMC kicks in next year and you are traded now then the new team can choose to void the clauses in FUTURE years.

In the case of Lucic his clause will stay. He would have to agree to waive for Seattle.

From this very website:

The clause can travel with the player even if he consents to being traded or is claimed on waivers
- This requires that the acquiring team sign an addendum to the contract ensuring that the clause does in fact travel with the player (written by the player's agent)
- If the acquiring team refuses to sign the addendum, and the player waives his clause anyway, at that point the clause may be nullified

You should bold the part RIGHT BEFORE where you did:

and the player waives his clause anyway

Lucic WILL NOT allow his only trade and waiver protection to dissolve. I mean I could be wrong but I cannot remember one single situation where this has happened.

No, my original point stands:

"The NMC doesn't have to travel with Lucic unless Vancouver allows it... which they won't. He can be exposed to Seattle."

IF Lucic waives to go to Vancouver (the whole premise of this trade is that he does) then Vancouver has the option of allowing the NMC to travel with him or not.

He would get all the facts before the deal was finalized. If he agreed to move to Vancouver and then Vancouver refused to sign the addendum then Lucic can choose to reject (there is no place where he gets screwed).

The player will know if the team is refusing to sign this before the trade is finalized. I could be wrong but if that was not the case then this rule is a waste of time because NO ONE would ever do it and all clauses would get auto-voided.

This is true. The facts would all be on the table, Lucic would be waiving his NMC knowing that it will not travel with him to Vancouver.

He waives his NMC to come to Vancouver, but that doesn’t mean the clause goes away. Vancouver acquires his contract which includes the NMC.

I think you should probably read the comments above, both Steven_Dean and myself outline the actual rules.
