Personally I just don't get the appeal Pesce garners. He is a good defensive defenseman who's advance stats say he is a great shot suppressor but that's pretty much it. He doesn't have hardly any offence and his contract isn't that good. 4 mill for a guy who scores 20 points a year and has 1 full season to his name. What has he done to be considered a top defenceman?

Ennis toke the 1 yr deal for under 1 million because he is still getting his buy out money from Minne, next season, if he continues getting ok numbers, he'll try for a 2+ million from a team, remember a couple seasons ago he was a 4+ million player.

I don't think its a good trade either, it was more of a commentary on how whenever liljegren is included in a trade the cavalry comes to the thread.

While I think of it, Ennis is a good contract comparism for Kapanen, Ennis signed a 2 yr bridge deal after his ELC for 2 yrs @ 2.8 million.

Pesce is no good Pietrangelo is no good the leafs defence is no good come playoff time Give away Gardner is going to show up Hans won’t be able to play all those mins. Doing the same thing every year expecting a different result is insane.

You giving up a third liner and a very good prospect. He can become a stud or he can flop we don’t know. So we give them just Kap and a draft pick.

thank you they are not in first which means your last. If you think the defense is good enough to beat Boston then we will go with it. because they are the second best in when the games don't matter much. Gardner should be a 15 million dollar defenseman then.

its not about a positive spin or trying to ripped of another team. Honestly I don't think they will do anything because they cant afford to do anything. This is a job(Business) and Dubus cant make mistakes. Without knowing Marner and Mathews contract I don't blame him for not doing anything and saying that are defense is good what else is he going to say. If he trades for someone and cant make it work under the cap next year he going to be laughed at. I don't like Gardner not because of game 7, just the way he plays defense. One team that is going to need offense from there defense is going to pay him we have enough puck handling defenseman we need a few dman hans is just to slow know.

I must admit, I am having a great deal of trouble following what you are saying here. What I can kind of understand is that you think the defense isn't good enough. That or you really want to see Gardiner gone.

I think the defense is good enough with the forwards that are present. Apart from Hainsey, he shouldn't be on the team anymore, he is just too slow to be effective anymore.

As for Gardiner, I agree. His play in the defensive zone is utterly aggravating. At least once a game, you'll watch him float away from the front of the net watching the puck somewhere else, leaving his man wide open. Usually Andersen bails him out but it happens way too many times. At this stage you know its not going to improve. He's going to be an FA wanting at least 6 million a year on his next deal and I wouldn't pay him that. Ride out the year and watch him walk.

Still though, he won't be traded and will ride out the season. The trades people keep posting on here are almost always bad. Either massive overpayments or just lateral movements. Unless the Leafs are getting a huge upgrade and paying way less than market value, there is no point in making a trade this season for anything other than depth help. For crying out loud, some people on here think Brett Pesce is worth Nylander +. Defenceman cost too much, better to draft and develop than sell the far for guys who's best days are behind them.

I think most of us like to see the trades its exciting something the team needs. Knowing that the defense is bad there tends to be an overpayment to get the trade done. The media saying there a chance of winning the cup you go over board and sell the farm, that's just passion for the team. Drafting and development is slow and boring lol. That's the way the leafs use to do it in the old day sign the popular player with there best days behind him but had a name.

I believe he does. There is a rumour that St Louis offered Pietrangelo for Nylander in a 1 for 1 before he signed and Dubas turned it down because he thought the age gap was way too big. Which tells me he understands player decline in their 30's, which is where Pietrangelo will be when he signs his next contract. He knows that Pietrangelo will want a raise and term and it just won't be a good idea.
