With the emergence of Kapanen and Johnsson, and Grundstrom, Bracco and Timashov all having great years in the AHL with an NHL promotion on the way, I just don't see a fit for Brown and Hyman especially with the cap crunch. I specifically am excited to see what Grundstrom (Komorov with more offence) and Bracco can do, and what Johnsson and Kapanen will look like a year from now. They need defense, and Pulock is RHD that is a top 4 on a cheap contract. I think Sandin's play should warrant a spot on the Leafs next year, and I want to see Hainsey back, he's been amazing considering his minutes, age, and contract.
I really like Goligoski and Hjarlmarsson in Arizona but their contracts are way too much money. Same with a Niskanen in Washington which would cost a lot in a trade. So who's a really good veteran d man that is NOT a rental (ala Kronwall)? Chicago: They're old and not contending, they're up against the cap and will finish near the bottom of the league. Essentially they're sellers, wouldn't be surprised to see everyone gone except Toews, Kane, Strome, Debrincat, and Boqvist. Which brings to mind Seabrook, a big strong veteran RHD d man who is well composed in this own end with a great shot, a good passer, and can log big minutes (20:00 currently in Chicago). Has shutdown ability as well. My package is fair; a first round pick for a rebuilding team is a great addition, I would ask Chicago to take on half his salary for the remainder of the years, and take back a bad contract in Zaitsev. It's a shame to see Rosen go, I think he could break into the league next year.
I think Babcock will reduce Seabrook's minutes as he gets older. And Dermott should be ready for top 4 minutes.
By the way I don't see Nylander going anywhere unless its a deal Dubas can't say no to.
The Leafs will need to spend some time requiring draft picks and adding prospects, but if they can win a cup or two its worth it. Their cap situation is also pretty good.
The last thing the Leafs need is a sandpaper type of player with skill. They had Matt Martin but he couldn't put up any points. Simmons is coming off a mediocre year but should see improvements on a line with Tavares or Matthews. He doesn't mind hitting everything and has a ton of energy. Good on special teams and provides that grit the team needs.
Sportsnet rated him at #19... I don't think the Leafs will get that high of a pick regardless.
Sportsnet also has Lavoie going 8th, not a good source for a draft prediction. Foote goes (or at least should go) somewhere in the mid 40s, and its a wasted pick if he goes top 20 lol

Hes a 18 year old putting up close to a point a game in the WHL and ranked in the top 20 by every scouting source I have seen so far. Either you have watched every game know more then professional NA scouts or your just making **** up and dont have a clue
Ok out of all of this I have to ask, how did the Leafs draft a top 15 pick?

Nolan Foote is not going in the 1st round, let alone top 15

So... the leafs make a cup run but still end up with a lottery pick, sign Simmonds for less than half his value, and trade for Seabrook? Nope.

Foote is predicted to go anywhere from 19 to 40, so he could fall to the Leafs at 25-30.
