        Right, he is but you would still have to give something to ANA to get his rights. Only way that signing works if he was a UFA

        Teams are giving up assets just to pick up Dallas's overpaid and unwanted. Leafs don't need an average veteran expensive goalie and Calgary can afford a real # 1.

        I'm a Hawks fan but live in Dallas. Kari Lehtonen and Bryan Bickell contracts have a lot in common. Both are not only unwanted by their current teams, but unwanted by all teams. I am hopefully Bickell can get packaged with another asset so the Hawks can put his 4 million cap hit to work this off season, but with Lehtonen (or Niemi to a lesser degree) it will be tough for another team to take on such a contract. Goalies can't be buried on a bottom line if they underperform and I don't see a team putting Lehtonen or Niemi in the minors. Dallas is going to have to wait these contracts out. In the meantime, can they build a defense that actually plays defense?
