Description

Calgary gets upgraded at both positions. Doesn't take on any extra salary this year, and actually gains $1.8M in Cap Space next year even with Staal on the roster (if Zuccarello doesn't resign).

Rangers take on lesser players/contracts, while retaining half of Zuccarello deal. Only take on extra $1.8M next year (Stone/Frolik instead of Staal) before having complete freedom from all contracts for 20-21' Season (no lengthy buyout needed). Get rewarded with the best Prospect in Calgary system.

If Flame fans deem him off limits, willing to consider extra Draft pick compensation with the next tier of Prospects (Dube, Kylington, Mangiapane, etc).

This does not help out the Rangers at all it makes it worst NHL

Explain. Rangers aren't going to be super competitive next year, as the kids are still learning. So taking on an extra $1.8M isn't a big deal. Not having to buy out Staal is ideal. Get a Top Level Prospect that Zuccarello probably wouldn't fetch on his own is a plus. Taking on salary helps in that cause. Should I be asking for more?

Gave up a 4th, 7th and Steven Kampfer to acquire him. If they can convince some team to give them a 3rd, I consider that a huge win. But even just getting back a 4th would be great.

I’d be ok with CGY moving a 3rd for him, like a lot of what he does

While I think he is a little slow footed for today's game, his physicality is definitely noticed by many Playoff teams. Lots of interest. Would rather attach him to one of our bigger Free Agents as a sweetener to improve the return. He should get moved, either way.

No way we give up Valimaki so we can be blessed with the Staal contract for 2 more years. Zucc aint much of an upgrade over Frolik and Staal is a straight up cap dump that we cannot afford.

Fair enough. Zuccarello is still an upgrade, especially the way he has heated up, as of late. I get that Staal is nothing special. But considering that Stone is completely nonexistent, I figured Staal would be an upgrade even over the likes of him.

As I said, maybe asking for Valimaki is reaching too high. Other compensation could be considered, if that were a major holdup.

More a cap issue for us - having Staall that extra year is scary when we are so close to the ceiling
