This was made under the assumption that someone like Maatta or Johnson are traded in the offseason and replaced with the cheaper Riikola.

No, I mean what does Carolina get if Ferland re-signs. Why does your logic not cut both ways?

Exactly. There’d be conditions based on extensions since both are UFAs at end of season.

I don't see Staal going back to being a 3C blocking shots. Especially with a NMC.

Lol that’s why I said it was the point of no return. The Penguins are going to be REAL bad soon. Might as well set themselves up to quickly get the #1 overall lol
