For sure. That's why Dubas makes the big bucks. Guess it depends on who's left at 9/10 in 2024 -or- who's projected in the 4-7 2025?

I'm not 100% convinced of the signing either, but I've seen him enough times in the PIT v. WSH games that I know when he's on he can bring a Nick Bonino-type presence that PIT has sorely missed. Also, from his time in WSH (and hopefully now in PIT) it seems that Eller needs fast wingers to stay effective offensively (he's still quite good defensively); so I think pairing him with Rust and Johnsson/O'Connor will do wonders for him.

One of the reasons fiala was let go was towards an eye on paying kaprizov. Understood. But I said in the trade that Guentzel would sign an $8MM x 8 year extension before being traded. Not sure that changes your mind, but felt I should clarify.

And two good RW's on shorter term deals for a total 1.5M over what Rust would ask for 6 YEARS?

Copp A Flower
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I can't see anything in it for Winnipeg. If they move Copp, it will be to gain cap space. Kapanen will likely be looking for close to what Copp wants and isn't as good and doesn't play a needed position, so the Jets are far better off keeping Copp. The second is alright, but none of Pittsburgh's projects are interesting or are better than anything Winnipeg currently has.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BatVader</b></div><div>2 things…
Can we make it Maniscalco over POJ?
What are KKs contract expectations?</div></div>
The way I see it... Kapanen is playing pretty inconsistent right now. Nights where he's invisible, other nights where he's the most dynamic player on the ice. So his contract will likely be in the area of Jake Debrusk's current contract: 1 year at ~$3.75MM. Assuming Copp's next contract is somewhere in the ballpark of $5.25MM AAV, that saves $1.5MM in space.

This is a business. His contract is terrible and no doubt BOS is looking to trade him away at any opportunity. There are really good centers BOS can nab in UFA. PIT would hypothetically want Coyle to see if it can spark his old teammate Zucker.

ERod Must Be Resigned
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MatthewsFan</b></div><div>For starters, at 28 years old I'm pretty sure he is going to want more than just a 1 year deal. But even tho he doesn't have a crazy high shooting % I would caution giving him that much money. Plenty of one hit wonders to look back on: Setoguchi, Cheechoo, Clarkson, Leino
I agree PIT should try to keep him but with term and dollars that make sense.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>exo2769</b></div><div>ERod has come out of nowhere and credit to him for sure! I'd be very careful extending him based on 1 year's performance. He's 28 years old. It's not like he's a young guy.</div></div>
All analytical data and the eye test prove that ERod is the real deal and has, by some stroke of witchcraft, changed his game at 28 years old to be an elite offensive threat. But, since he is human and all of this is a business, he must do a 1-year "prove that you're the real deal" contract at 1 x $4M. I.e. he makes bank for a year, keeps up the production, and is given a blank check in UFA the following offseason.

The way I see it: There are a lot of quality Centers that will be UFA this offseason for BOS to choose from. Matheson has shown in PIT that if the coaching staff reigns him in, he can be serviceable. Still a bad contract? Absolutely. But BOS loses a bad contract and only have Matheson for 4 more years vs Coyle's 5.

FLA trade
I really don't see the reason Pens do this. Unless the main reason was just to move Zucker.
Ruhwedel is a perfectly fine 3RD at $1.75MM less than Gudas. Gudas does add more on the physicality front, but Ruhwedel is better defensively.
PIT is top-tier defensively this year. No need to fix what ain't broke.

Offseason Assuming Missed 2022 Playoffs TDL

At that point it would be a Age 35+ contract, so he's guaranteed the money in his contract no matter what his status is (LTIR, IR, retired, etc). So he'd likely go for the longest and most lucrative contract he could get. Plus, the three years would line up with the final 3 years of Sid, Geno, and Letang.
