McDavid Trade

Created by: CaptJosef
Team: 2019-20 Philadelphia Flyers
Initial Creation Date: Jan. 23, 2019
Published: Jan. 23, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I know you 'can't put a price on McDavid' but if the Oilers want to rebuild fast this gives them 3 top tier prospects, 3 first round picks over this year and next, and shifts 2 bad contracts. It seems fair to me, piebald even an overpay by the Flyers... I guess others will feel different...

No from LA. Not even close to enough cap space. Nor would we want those players.

Not saying this is a good deal or bad deal, but can Philly even really afford McDavid and Lucic's contracts long term? & I read how you said that the 2019 first is included as long as it's not a top 2 pick after the lottery.. Edmonton would need that pick no matter what. If it was a top 2 it actually helps the value so much. & you'd be getting McDavid, so it's absolutely still in play even if it's the puck that gets Jack Hughes

You still have Ratcliffe, Rubtsov, Farabee, Allison, and O'Brien working into the forward shots whilst Frost is also developing. On D it's a bit thinner but there's still Hogberg, Ginning, Zamula, and few others who have a reasonable shot at an NHL career. I get there no more stars in the prospect pool as such but you have plenty of good players locked up that you'd really just need 'pieces' to pisces around them like the pens have been doing for years.

I think LA will have a lot of cap room after deadline day and in the off-season. Friedman and Stone are decent prospects and the picks are good value too. I'm sure those bits could be used to dump contracts on other rebuilding teams.

Obviously this was all just a thought experiment to see if it would work and if day it does. It's cap stable for the Flyers considering there's not many major contacts to be signed for a few years following this plus there still a few decent prospects to come in with 2 or 3 year ELC deals replacing more expendable guys.

If the Flyers end up with the 1st or 2nd pick they just take Hughes or Kakko respectively. They'll be in the NHL next season so it's pretty much an addition right away.

They are good but if you put 3 young player on the same line they will not score often because of the lack of experience

Honestly, I'd probably just put either Frost or Farabee with McDavid, bump JVR to 3rd line, and reunite G and Coots on the second line by the start of the 2020 season.
