Obviously a lot to give up, but were dumping Ox on them. RNH would be huge for this team. I also love the Florida swap, i used this trade a couple of weeks ago. We know Botts love his FA imports!

Imo Okposo will flourish for a couple of years, being by far Edmontons best RWer available, he'll be playing with McDavid. He was Taveres's finisher but hasnt had the same caliber of centerman in Buffalo on a consistent basis. Everyone wants to give up on players on this site and sometimes rightfully so, but Okposo has played well this year, hes just not getting opportunities hes used to. He's definetly a canididate for a change of scenery guy, but his NMC and peoples opinions of him complicates things.

Edmonton trade makes no sense for them. They need forward help so why would they trade their 3rd best forward and by doing so, get weaker at forward?

They already fired their GM, they shouldnt be rushing to get good. They get a first and 2 prospects and you can read my analysis of Okposo above, so i dont agree they get weaker, and they begin to build on an extremely weak prospect pool

Nothing you said makes sense because it is not a 1 for 1 trade.

The Oilers firing Chiarelli shouldn't have anything to do with this.

Nugent Hopkins right now is better than Okposo, contract wise, stats wise, age wise, that's why it makes no sense for Edmonton to trade Hopkins for him. RNH is a piece the Oilers need to keep to build around.

Besides Okposo, the other pieces are underwhelming too. The 1st will be in the 25-29 range, Asplund and Smith aren't anything great either, they have a combined 6 games NHL experience between them.

Something like the 2019 1st (BUF) and Guhle would make more sense for both teams.

The Oilers do not have an extremely weak prospect pool.

I think you should check out Tyler Benson, Cooper Marody, Cameron Hebig, Kirill Maksimov, Ryan McLeod, Ostap Safin, Patrik Siikanen, Caleb Jones, William Lagesson, Dmitri Samorukov, Evan Bouchard, Ethan Bear, Joel Perrson, Stuart Skinner, Dylan Wells, Hayden Hawkey, and Olivier Rodrigue

Id give up Guhle but Edmonton has no use for LHD. Asplund is a highly rated prospect but everyone knew he would need some years to develop and has had a good year in his role in the AHL. Smith should be in the NHL but players like Sobotka are wasting his roster spot. Edmonton can utilize him now and have the time for him to adapt to the NHL, hes definely a good 3rd line guy. The Sabres roster mismanagment is in no way an indicator on the performance and talent of their prospects that they are wasting. RNH would be about 28 - 29 by the time this team is competitive again if they decide to patch work that team together around him. He is the most logical piece to move to get back decent assets. A late first still produces NHL talent at about a 40% rate but id gladly give them the Sabres pick if it influences them.

Crapping on a trade because Nuge is better then Okposo is an over simplification. Theirs 3 other pieces too.

Benson, McLeod, Jones, Yamamoto and Bouchard are all locks. Only one is a C, Asplund is a C. Id take Hawkey and Rodrigue over Skinner but theyll need a few years. Bear is starting to get up there and cant beat out players like Benning and Russell. Persson probably walks away from them, they didnt even bother to bring him over this year. The rest of them are not stellar, they may have some hits with Maksimov and Safin, and I know Edmonton is high on them but I think they are still a few years away before they realize thier talent and Edmonton knows what they have. This is a franchise that has a reputation of mishandling player development.

Marody, and Hebig are both centers.
Persson can’t walk away. Oilers own his NHL rights, he’s a RFA next season.
Yes they have a history of playing prospects to early. I just don’t see the extreme weakness though. The only good thing in the Chiarelli years was drafting.

Thats true with Marody and Hebig. Hebig is on the same page as Asplund, and Marody didnt produce in his quick stint. Marodys probably closer to to NHL, at least figuring out if he sticks. Edmonton can qualify Persson but he doesnt need to sign, then in one year hes a UFA.

LOL at trying to dump Okposo on us at all, let alone with RNH coming back. The 1st will be a late pick and won't impact the team for several years if ever, and the other pieces are junk.

Already gave my analysis on Okposo, you can think whatever you want about him, but he'd be a 60 point RWer for Edmonton at least

Everyone says that. It's bull****. He's got similar value to Lucic.

With Perrson I think the only reason he wasn’t brought over was because he only had one season in the SHL, and he had progressed very quickly. One more season there to see if he’s for real wasn’t a bad idea.
I’d like the Oilers to bring Perrson over with his coach Sam Hallam next season, and give Hitchcock a management position.

Sabres aren't trading their fwds in Rochester. Smith and Asplund aren't going anywhere.
