Bridge Kappy and Johnsson; bring back Ozhiganov and Lindholm at slightly below market value; hand the bottom pairing over to the young guys.

Indeed. All TOR can really do is hope that the young guys will step up. Whether Zaitsev will improve (b/c he's away from Gardiner) or get worse (b/c his responsibilities will increase) also plays a factor. Not much TOR can do about that though.

Gonna have to trade a forward with a big salary cap for a defensemen. Only chance in hell they make the playoffs next year. This team will not make the playoffs.

I just don't think you can " low ball" players just because they are on a bridge. Lilijegren, I doubt if NHL ready. Too much "hope" that all these young or inexpensive step up. Nothing shameful in trading in a high priced forward for cap space and therefore Dman help.

Hmmm...

Toronto Maple Leafs
Dougie Hamilton

Carolina Hurricanes
William Nylander

It seems like a logical fit on paper. Yea? Nay?

I feel like Carolina would need some sort of conditional pick. If Nylander gets a certain amount of points ETC, either that or Toronto retains, but yeah, it's making more and more sense.

Just for term...as a Leaf I would rather have Pesce. But you are correct. To me Nylander is the logic trade. His cap is 7m but his $$$$ is under 5m a year for the next 5 years after July 1. So Leafs trade 7m cap for Hamilton and 5.75m or Pesce at 4m or maybe Montour at 3.4m. Well you get the idea.
Tampa and Jets might have to do the same thing. Trading high priced players for cap space. Certainly they are going to less in trading value back, and I think Leafs might have the same scenario.

Because of said term, as well as his steal of a deal, I don't think you're getting Pesce. Perhaps the best they could do is a conditional 2022 2nd? Conditions: if Hamilton does not re-sign, TOR gets the pick.

Teams don't having conditional draft picks...so far out, like three years because it might hinder future trades. Now as you suggest, for Pesce...maybe the Leafs have to add. OR Maybe because Carolina doesn't spend to the cap, and Nylander cost 4.8m a year in real money, maybe the Canes retain 1m on Hamilton. There is a fit somehow.

Rielly can play the right side, so he'll shift over there. It was an overpay, but it wasn't a terrible one imo.

If he plays with Reilly then it makes sense. Muzzin doesn't drive play. He compliments Doughty greatly, and his point production was always a byproduct of playing with DD. i have a feeling LA retained salary
