As a cap dump, I'd be happy for MTL to take Manning or Spooner for an appropriate pick or prospect. But giving up a pick to get one of them straight up isn't happening.

I can't see Montreal even considering that without Schlemko coming back. Even after burying Schlemko, Edmonton would still be over the cap by approximately 50k iirc.

Maybe a trade of picks so you still get 7 picks for the draft

Exactly. We'll give you a 7th for The Islanders third and take Spooners cap hit off your hands kinda thing

So I wonder about this, what's a cap dump like Manning cost? He's only got one more season at $2.25
so not a large hit and he can play in a #6-7 D role, does that cost the Oilers a 3rd? Or higher then a 3rd, a 2nd? And in this case does Montreal send a 7th rounder to Edmonton to make the trade legitimate?
I don't know, just wonder what's a reasonable sacrifice to dump a smaller contract like a Manning, Benning or Kassian for example.
