They have more then you think, Simon and Rust are pretty young and have a lot potential. Plus it's hard to get more then this for a guy who is on an expiring contract

pit says no, although good deal in terms of what they are giving up, pit would want some salary retention. Ott prob also says no. not much of a return in their eyes

It's hard to get a lot for a guy who may end up being a rental for any team. I personally think Rust/pearson and simon could be top 6 guys. There would be more to this deal obviously but I personally think it's a decent basis

Rust or pearson are both top 6 guys and Simon has the potential to be one. Plus they're all young. Its hard to get more then this for a guy who might end up only a rental for any team

where would they even play Duchene at this point? Malkins LW? they have plenty of centers so don't think he would be the 3c now.

Coaches like having a lot of centers in case in case they get thrown out of a faceoff and in general gives more options. Nylander was originally a center but they wanted him to play with Mathews

this attitude is why Ottawa is a last place team. To really think that the Penguins don't have the "assets" to get Duchene is hilarious.

But they aren't. They are good 3rd line guys.

Pearson is 26, has never had more than 44 points in a season. In 39 games with PIT he has 14 points and he's played most his time with Malkin and Kessel.
Rust is 26 and has never scored more than 38 points. He has 28 points in 54 games with his most used linemates are Crosby and Guentzel.
Simon is 24 who currently has 21 points in 47 games with his most used linemates being Crosby and Guentzel.

I'm not saying they're bad, I'm just saying they aren't top 6 or talent that's close to getting you Duchene. Duchene is going to get a 1st+a legit top prospect or a young NHL talent that's already top 6F or top 3D.

You need to be good to play with those guys. I think Rust suits Ottawa better for what he is personally. Rust has been one of Pittsburgh best players lately. And Simon has potential. I kniw there would be more needed to this deal but I just thought that this was a good base for what this deal coukd look like

But who the heck does Rust play with then he gets to OTT? Without Duchene or Stone (he'll be moved if Duchene is) they have crap in their top 6. Rust would do nothing there. Rust is one of those players that can really help top 6 players, but without them he's just a 3rd liner.

Yeah I guess that's fair enough. I think OTT will end up signing Stone at least but that still might not be enough
