Calgary loves Valimaki, but this might be workable. Big benefits to both sides. Flames management knows how rare it is for all the pieces to come together in one season, with minimal injuries to key players. They would be wise to go for it.

Detroit should not need to retain so much, maybe just the $1.5M on Howard and nothing on Nyquist. Or alternatively they keep the retained $$ and Calgary adds another B-prospect or draft pick. Detroit might want one of the young goalies in the Flames system to help their rebuild (Parsons or Gillies ?).

That is a big overpay on Calgary's part. Valimaki as part of a Stone deal is iffy, let alone this.

Where are you hearing this rumor? No way Brad Treliving deals Valimaki unless Nyquist signs an extension or possibly Howard. And both are probably resigned by Detroit from what Khan has said. That's way too much for Calgary to give up. Holland also said that he's not interested in picks past this season. So if we deal Daley it's for a 2019 pick not 2020 pick unless he's dealt at the draft.
