This is a massive overpay by the Flames. 3 really good young pieces, 2 firsts and a second? No thank you.

This would be a better deal for both teams:

Cgy gets: Hayes (retain 2m), Lundqvist (retain 2m), Hajek

Rangers get: Valimaki, Andersson, Dube, Smith, 1st in 2019, conditional 1st in 2020 if CGY resigns hayes or gets to the cup final (minimally 2nd rounder)

I wouldn't mortgage the future this year. Let NSH and WPG blow their wads. Wait until next year to make the run.

Tweaks OK, but this will hurt the Flames organization for years.

2 -1sts, a 2nd, a top end NHL ready 19 yr old D , a top 50 ranked forward prospect, a middle 6 former 4th OA pick, Lazar and an expiring goalie all for a #2 rental C and a goalie who will be 37 in 3 weeks that we would have under contract for 6M for the next 2 1/2 years?? And you think that this is an UNDERPAY???

This trade would set the Flames back for years.
