Description

Trying to work out a trade that (a) benefits the Leafs for more than just this season and (b) helps the Leafs salary cap moving forward.

My thinking here is that:

1. Zaitsev = Lovejoy (but Leafs save cap space long term)

2. Liljegren= McLeod

3. Gardiner as a pure UFA rental would net the Devils a 1st round draft pick and mid-level prospect, at minimum, if they wanted to immediately trade, which would be equal to cost of Severson.

The plan for the Leafs would then be to trade Kadri at the draft, receive the cap relief from his $4.5 million cap hit and plan to play McLeod as their 3C for the 2019-20 season.

Big oof... can't see how this makes sense for either team. Why on Earth are the leafs giving up Liljegren? and why onearth would the devils want Zaitsev? If they could flip Gardiner maybe they would take him I guess, but they aren't getting a first rounder and a prospect for him as a rental... Why would the devils give up Severson who's on a great contract and a nice young Dman? Will admit know nothing about michael Mcleod.

It's kinda crazy to disrupt you team as they make a Cup run now. Leafs are better to have Kadri and Zaitsev on the team rather than Severson and Lovejoy. And really how is having Severson long term any better for the Leafs than having Zaitsev long term.

Liljgeren is apart of the future for the leafs and as a entry level deal that is great for the leafs. This deal would have the leafs spending 4 million on their blue line when they can pay rosen and liljgren a combined 2 million to fill 2 spots. Severson on the pay role would leave no room for marner, Johnsson, and Kapanen’s contract and Kadri is a large part of the team and worth his contract in my opinion.

This seems way to elaborate and disruptive just to dump zaitsevs contract
