Quoting: drew1871
Excellent points, I feel Mojo's decline is more of a product of his environment and deployment and less of a representative of him as a player. The Devils are horrendous. The deal is favored on the Devils side and I like that as a Devils fan. I think a realistic deal would be 50% retained Mojo and a mid-to-late-round pick for a 2nd and one B level prospect.
IMO, SJ has to go all in. The reason, I think EK moves on in FA and does not resign with the Sharks and I think SJ's window is closing honestly.
I think they kind of are all in. They went all in when they acquired karlsson. Spending even more on guaranteed rentals doesnt necessarily even increase your chance of winning as chemistry is as important as talent. The chemistry is prtty awesome now, so acquiring a top 6 forward is likely wasted resources.
I complete disagree about the closing window, regardless of whether EK 65 stays or goes. The sharks just won 6 in a row without him, marching through the top two teams in the west in their buildings. They have a nice mix of youth and vets. Next year, pavs will be the only past-prime forward (or jumbo), with all other forwards 30 or younger including the two dominant players in meier and hertl at 25 or less.
The D is aging some, but simek, ryan and dillon are sub-30. Vlasic will be 32, which is not young, but not exaclty old. Burns will be 34, but he is showing no signs of a decline, so even if he goes down some, he'll still be pretty good. And they'd have ample money if EK65 doesnt resign to go after a quality player in the offseason.
Dont get me wrong, I want Ek to stay, but I dont see this whole 'closing window' thing. If they fail this year, and EK 65 leaves, they will still have a very good team with Pavs (if/when he resigns), cooch, kane, hertl, meier, donkey (if he resigns), labanc, sorensen, and several very promising rookies. Their D is still good with Burns, Vlasic, Braun, Dillon, Simek, Ryan. It's not a dominant D, but still pretty good.
