Pens cap relief equals THICCCC 3rd line
@Frank_Booth And was a healthy scratch in the Blues series. Deboer doesn't trust him (started nearly 60% of his shifts in the OZ), he's soft on the boards, and is going to be going into his age-27 season. Trade him now while other teams are still high (somehow...) on him so that we don't have to be hanging onto his 1.5M when he undoubtedly regresses.

Paying this much for TJ and his contract at this point is crazy. He’s going to be in Seattle in 2 years one way or another

@Jetman @Caniac555 I was basing off of Evolving Wild's contract projections which was 1 yr/925k for Haydn. I have no idea what he's really worth to Waddell at this point though with Bean projected to be a top-4 D-man and the trade for Forsling.

Exactly what @Ragsandbluesfan said.
And I should add that comparing point totals is very iffy when valuing draft picks.

2020 cap situation

Quoting: baseddougwilson

It's a bridge deal. Hertl got 2x3, Timo gets a little bit more than that. He is also an RFA without arbitration rights so he doesn't have much power.

I agree Timo will get a bridge deal but you should calculate his AAV relative to the % of the cap. Simply comparing the AAV on the deals doesn't mean much without the context of cap increases etc. I think Timo will probably get at least 4.5 M AAV
Also, I think Pavelski's deal will be 3 years at least. Thornton and Marleau signed similar deals in 2014. Pavelski gets the same treatment here.
As for the roster makeup, I am a little baffled by the Ryan/Gambrell signings. How do either of those guys get 7 figures AAV?

Sharks Offseason Ideas 2019
@shmoeman I'm not disagreeing with you that the contract is bad though, totally get the apprehension. I'm just considering the case where Krug asks for 8 yrs and 64-72M total next summer. Would the Bruins rather a solid, rarely injured defensive stalwart making 7M annually until age 38 or an undersized, offensive-first Dman making 8M plus until age 37?

So will Krug's eventual extension though. He'll be signing it at age 29 and it will be an 8 yr deal, no?

Quoting: shmoeman

I like Vlassic a lot but that contract is ridiculous, wont be getting moved anywhere

Krug will probably want similar term and more per year (probably somewhere between 8-9M AAV) so the question then is whether an undersized Dman in Torey Krug the answer on D or does Vlasic fit the need? Throwing in Labanc I think makes this a no-brainer for the Bruins if they are concerned about a contract like Vlasic's

this isn't it chief.
1. Karlsson doesn't sign for less than $11M AAV, let alone $10M AAV
2. Pavelski will sign a 3-year deal (though you were right on AAV)
3. Sheahan/Edler do not tip the scale and are a waste of money
4. BOS deal is crazy. Vlasic probably won't waive either but if he did, a deal for Krug would be it. Package Vlasic and LaBanc's rights for Krug and a 2nd-rd pick.

Should the sharks be paniking
@erp48 I was thinking of a similar trade with the Coyotes involving Ryan but was a little hung up on the fact that the Coyotes are already pretty loaded with LHD (OEK, Hjalmarsson, Oesterle and Connauton).
A 3rd pick could be enough to land Panik straight up but the Sharks 3rd rd pick is going to be in the late 80s (ideally the 92nd pick but let’s not get too ahead of ourselves) so Chakya may not bite.
