Description

While I am expecting this to be shot down, just gauging the interest based on recent reports between Toronto and the Rangers. Leafs showing interest in Kreider, as well as another Defenseman on the Right side.

Trade favors Toronto in the Short Term. Not only operating with more pieces in a Championship window, while also alleviating some of the Cap constraints moving forward. Kreider and Shattenkirk practically equal to Nylander's Cap hit next year, while having another Defenseman on the roster once Gardiner and Hainsey leave in the Offseason. Nylander hasn't played to his top potential since his hold out, while Kreider is having a Career year. Even with Nylander rebounding in the future, Kreider is the more dominant player at this moment.

Rangers get a dynamic young Forward for the future while freeing up a roster spot on a clogged Defensive unit.

Hate to say it, but Toronto seems to be keen on getting someone like Pesce/Parayko+ so Skjei most likely.

So you would consider the deal if Shattenkirk was swapped out for Skjie? I would definitely consider that, except I wouldn't want to retain salary on Skjie for 5 more years. In that case, I would retain 50% of Kreider's salary in the deal. Practically the same over through next Season (Kreider and 50% of Shatty is $7.9M, while Skjie and 50% of Kreider is about $7.5M).

I don't think that does it. Toronto reportedly has interest in Mcquaid. That's part of the reason I posted this. To try and see if they would take another one of our Defenseman in his place.

Toronto is really only looking for one more D-Man, not 2. By acquiring Mcquaid WITH Skjei, he would basically end up being 7th Defenseman on the bench, which is pointless for Toronto. And even if Buchnevich finds himself, he not only won't be as good as Nylander in the future, but his production this year isn't good enough to offset Nylander. That's why Kreider is ideal. Even if Nylander is better in the future, Kreider is better now. Buchnevich not better than Nylander in either scenario.

Might be a pretty fair trade in playing value. Leafs are still in the same cap spot next year...Over the cap by 7m if Marleau doesn't retire.

Skjei would allow TML to move on from Gardiner.... and at just 1 mil more than Jake now, although hes a pretty good NHL dman... but next contract will determine how valuable... both for himself and organization that has him.

As for Buchy... with his less than sparkling start to his career, TML at very least would get him on affordable bridge deal or potentially a long term good value.
I imagine it would be hard for Pavel to NOT put up points in TMLs top six... and even on longer deal, much less than Nylander. ( not player comparison, $$$)

I'm not particularly fond of the deal...
But probably would mean Nylander OR Panarin...
