...but, I'm willing to look at the future and see what (idiot) GM Fenton might do with all his recently acquired capspace… Dammit, I'm pissed!!!
For the record, I will officially end my allegiance with the Minnesota Wild if they do, in fact, sign Matt Duchene this summer.

I wonder if Nashville will help out Minnesota at the draft in the form of a 1st round pick...

I heard chatter about Fenton possibly targeting UFAs from NYI: Nelson and Lee. Do the Minnesota guys come home?

I actually started this roster planning on signing both of those two, but went with what would piss me off even more...and signed Duchene. I completely expect one or both of those two to be in a Wild sweater next season. Zucker will have to go first, but they would have room for them.

Pls no Duchene. If we draft Hughes or Cozens it'll be worth it, but that's a long shot.

I've had a bit of time to cool down from my knee-jerk reaction and I don't think the trade is all that bad...

Positives:
Fiala is 22, Granlund is 27 tomorrow
Fiala is a RFA, Granny only had 2 years remaining before he'll want $8-9M
In Fiala's first full NHL season, he scored 23 goals. Granlund scored 13. Note: Fiala averaged 15 minutes per game while Granlund averaged 18.
Fiala is more of a shooter (kind of coincides with my last point) and is extremely dangerous 1 on 1
Fiala is a much better skater than Granlund
Fiala has been amazing at even strength, scoring 19/23 and 9/10 goals during even strength last year and this year, respectively.
Fiala's Corsica and Fenwick are insanely good: 55.0% CF over career and 53.6% CF this year (in a slumping year) and 54.7% FF over career and 53.4% FF this year. Compared to Granlunds 50.0% CF career 52.4% CF this year and 50.6% FF career and 53.3% FF this year
Fiala's heatmap is very good, I'll post it in a separate comment. To sum it up, he's better than Granlund at 5v5 but slightly weaker at 5v4.
Fiala still has room to grow, Granlund has probably hit his ceiling.
Fiala's contract probably won't kill us.

I wish we could have gotten more, but there are a lot of things to like about the trade. I would have been much happier if he were a right shot, lol!

Hopefully this works so you can see Granny and Fiala's heatmap.

I think Minnesota fans are underrating Fiala. He’s pretty good, better than he’s given credit for. I think the Niederreiter trade sucked but Donato is looking good. Couple of good youngsters.

What this team needs most is Jack Hughes

Holy mother of hockey gods, yes please.
Fiala - Hughes - Kaprizov
Donato - Greenway - Kunin
Parise - Eriksson Ek - Zucker?
Foligno - 4C - 4RW

That looks like a damn good team in a couple years.

It's the not getting more that pisses me off with this trade...not Fiala, not that it wasn't for Tolvanen, but simply that it was a 1 for 1 deal. I have to believe Fenton could have gotten more! I'll calm down soon, I hope. Thanks for talking me off the ledge with your great info!

I don't see any scenario where Zucker fits in this lineup anymore. If he is not traded at the draft, I will be shocked.

I agree. It would have been nice to get a little something extra like a LD prospect or a 3rd round pick, just anything extra. But I do LOVE the fact Fiala is such a good skater. This team desperately needs speed and Fiala provides that in bunches. Glad I could provide a little positivity!

Here's what TSN has to say about him:
Assets: Is oozing in plenty of raw playmaking ability and overall puck skills. Is a slick one-on-one skater and a constant scoring threat. Competes for every puck with aplomb.
Flaws: Isn't very big or strong, and isn't a physical force by any stretch of the imagination, so he must add more bulk to his 5-10 frame to maximize output at the NHL level.
Career potential: Gifted playmaking winger with good upside.

Overall I am a little frustrated we didn't get that extra piece in the trade, but if he can be the 30 goal scorer that Fenton thinks he is, I'd be extremely happy. If we could land any of the centers projected to go in the top 10, we'll have a very good young, fast team that could be a legitimate contender soon. Maybe we move Zucker to move up in the draft, or move him for a later first and draft a Caufield, Lavoie, or Tomasino.

Edit:
Looks we just extended Staal: 2 years x $3.25M

Not reported yet but my guess is he has a NMC

I think the young guys Minnesota got will be good in the long run.

Keeping Staal helps too.

If they can get Hughes or Kakko or Podkolzin that will put this team’s future in a much brighter place

Saw that. Wonder what the trade was... Maybe Fenton and Treliving revisit this idea at the draft if we were after their pick

Who would the Wild want back though? I’d assume a younger forward.. Jankowski? Dubé?

My guess would be Dube if it were a forward, but part of me wonders if we were after a D or their 1st round pick. Our only LD prospect that has a shot at the NHL is Carson Soucy, and he's probably a 6/7D at best. Kylington would have been a nice get, and since this year's draft seems pretty deep that 1st would have also been helpful.

I would want Rasmus Andersson...then trade Spurgeon for more picks/prospects.
