Sabres deal with TB at the draft

Created by: CuyahogaKid
Team: 2019-20 Buffalo Sabres
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 13, 2019
Published: Mar. 13, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
2019 NHL Draft

1- Trevor Zegras C- Boston U committ
1b- Spencer Knight G Boston College committ

Im going to project the Sabres can get up to 5th-6th overall. and ironically the player who continues to rise with the Sabres is Trevor Zegras, the Boston U committ and potential #2 or 3 center in next years draft, or Alex Turcotte who is climbing back into the top 8

Other Notes:

- Im bringing in Carl Hagelin on a 2 year deal for his speed, pk, and ability to move up and down the lineup as well as his experience. He also has experience playing with JT Miller which helps and is a better possession player. He could be a great complimentary player for Mittelstadt on the third line

Okposo will be buried and Sobotka moved for Foligno to add Foligno's much needed grit to the roster

Jason Pominville is re-signed to a 1-year deal, but he will be likely scratched most games and essentially becomes our Danny Cleary, veteran mentor

Tage Thompson-Olafsson-Nylander all compete for the final roster spot with Pominville, Seeler, and Cleasson

Trades
1.
BUF
  1. Callahan, Ryan
  2. Miller, J.T.
Additional Details:
Pilut sees a full time call up next year.

Miller is a very versaitle forward with a little grit. In most years he is a 50 point player. He's also signed to a very fair deal.
TBL
  1. McCabe, Jake
  2. 2020 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
Tampa adds a very viable and affordable depth defenseman for next year and frees up cap space to re-sign Brayden Point
2.
BUF
  1. 2019 4th round pick (MTL)
MTL
  1. Scandella, Marco
Additional Details:
clear cap space
3.
BUF
  1. Foligno, Marcus
  2. Seeler, Nick
Additional Details:
Minnesota clears cap space for 2019-20 when Sobotka comes off the books and Buffalo reacquires a fan favorite and a depth defenseman
MIN
  1. Sobotka, Vladimír
Additional Details:
2019 4th round pick (SJS)
4.
BUF
  1. Vesey, Jimmy
Additional Details:
RFA rights Frederick Cleasson

Vesey has done well in his opportunity replacing Zuccarello as top 6 RW, and could flourish in Buffalo in his contract year on the top line RW, allowing Reinhart to catalyst to another line. Vesey also has the size needed.

The Sabres also need call up or depth options for defense with Pilut coming up and Guhle traded. Hickey, would likely be one of those options.

Cleasson has been good in a bottom pair role for the Rangers this year, and would be a nice bottom pair/depth option in Buffalo since McCabe and Scandella are moved.
NYR
  1. Smith, C.J.
  2. 2021 2nd round pick (BUF)
Additional Details:
pick 67 in 2019
2021 second round pick

CJ Smith finally gets his shot with the NYR

I did, I would probably need to get a >25 overall first in return with Callahan to be able to aid a division rival get out of cap trouble especially considering Buffalo is probably going to at least Inquire on a mid tier UFA or two to fill the roster out more and taking Callahan will limit Buffalo for next year.

Did he though? I mean we were the ones who traded for him when we knew he likely had his sights on NYR and Bos. He’s still a really good hockey player.

yeah he definitely did....we showed we wanted him bad, traded for his rights and tried to sell him to play for Buffalo and he said no thanks....

now hes going to want to join the Sabres after weve done nothing but suck even more since he declined our initial offer?

i still laugh whenever i see his name how he left the predators for the rangers like didnt he go to Harvard??

89 points in 227 career games that doesnt scream “really good” player to me....on a playoff team hes a 3rd line LW which is where Sheary should be slotted anyways no need for Jim Vesey screw that guy i love how he still gets booed when Rangers are in the KBC fans remeber this kinda stuff
