Description
I personally think other than Panarin (if he is willing to come); MTL should avoid any major free agent signings this off-season, rather, focus on the 2020 free agent class. By then, Suzuki, Poehling, Ramanov and Brook along with Kotkaniemi, Mete, Juulsen would be ready to add to Domi, Drouin, Gallagher as a team worthy of building towards something.

Not signing any UFA beyond 2019-2020 season, would offer MTL about 10M in cap space even after signing RFA's Domi, Mete and Juulsen in 2020. MTL would by then even have to be move a body in Byron, Tatar or Shaw to make room for Suzuki and Poehling after losing Pominville. Thereby, leaving it with 13-16M in Cap Space towards a very exciting 2020 Free Agent Class.

alzners cap hit is not a problem right now considering montreal isn't currently trying to sign big contracts, and trading two laval defenceman including a young solid b list prospect AND a 5th for only a seventh does not make sense at all

Yes I agree with you that Alzner's cap hit is not an issue now. However, I think as difficult as it is to move him now, it would be extremely more difficult the longer he continuous to be buried, I think an Alzner who has been buried for a year, is easier to trade than an Alzner who has been buried for 2 or worst 3 years.

It'd be great to have a solid lefty to play with Petry next year, but why would Minny do that trade? To receive value you have to send value in return, not scraps.

Not clear to me why Minnesota would want Reilly back having already said so long to him. And, given that he can't seem to crack even Montreal's miserable defence and he's an RFA, why would any team be trading for him. Hudon might have a little value, but not much. Again, he couldn't even beat out Lehkonen for one night, even though the Finn hadn't scored in eons.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love for this to happen and I think Brodin is a very good player. I suspect Minnesota's GM does too.
