Drouin was leading the habs in assits before he went down. Moreover, he finish the season with roughly the same points with far less games played as Saad, Laine and Puljarvi (who is playing on the same line with McDavid)...
Drouin is a very good player. He is just not a goalscorer. what he is a playmaker. If you as a fan accept that, than you see how valuable he is.
Put him with Caufield or Hoffman full time equals goals. Toffoli had 20 pts in 23 games playing with Drouin.

Apparently, CBJ are actively trying to get rid of Domi. No takers.
Byron and Domi are out for the same length of time. Domi and Byron will make the same amount of money roughly, although in Byron's case, it is over 2 years. CBJ have no real spot for Domi, however, Byron could be useful as bottom 6 guy, plus a 3rd and 7th.

Yes, management would probably never. But looking at age, mileage and Gally style of play; it will probably be wise to move. More so, if your are able to do so and bring in another 'elite' C; while still retaining KK and suzuki, in my view, it is worth it in the long run.

LTIR over Retirement would be both in Nashville and weber's interest. So I believe 'formalities' would be observed in between the two. whiles, retirement over LTIR would be in montreal's interest but certainly not in Nashville's.

Price and his wife are both from the region. And price has also played there before. Chances are Cale would be selected. But getting price to waive almost certainly means there is some kind of trade around price incoming. Allen is a more than worthwhile backup, but you don't risk price for him; unless of course, Price and his wife are returning back to the region; and this is an opportunity for Marc to rid himself of that contract.

Exactly. He was leading the team in assists when he went down. He played fewer games than these players and had roughly the same points as them -puljajurvi( who is playing with McDavid), Josh Anderson, Saad, Laine and Lafreniere. And yet, people treat him as if he is useless.

There is a clear need for grit and physicality in the playoffs, and as I stated in the rant this team has some stupid and uncreative players. You can have your core of caufield, Suzuki, kotkaniemi, Romanov, toffoli and add a little more skill along with grit.</div></div>
Outliers are outliers. Go back the last 20 years, and look at the teams that won, how many of those team's core and immediate support were players with low to average ability and skill, but elite level grit?
I'm not saying grit is irrelevant, in general, it is often that which separate good players from great ones; but all that means nothing if elite ability and pure skill is nowhere to be found. You win by having good players. It is that simple.

Habs Rant Everyone welcome
Grit and determination do not win championships, skill does. This is true in every sport. The highly skill team more often than not, wins. Sure, you might get your occasional Cinderella story, or a miracle coach being inspired, but those things are as rare as they come. The fact of the matter is, the skill level, game intelligence and creativity on this team as a group is low to average, very average. But the GM is one those who like many, is fooled by grit, determination and "character". You can have all those things as much as you want, without any actual skill, you just like Cinderella, would be waiting for a fairy godmother to magically transforms your reality into a dream.
Lastly, I've said here before, you do not win by trying to 'win' every year. This team should be looking at its next crop and understand, that's its veterans have had their day. We should be looking at getting as many blue chip 2017 to 2020 drafted prospects as much as we can, (not draft picks, I do not trust this gm to draft well) but many are too emotional entangled with certain players, that they rather continue to lose and go nowhere, than see those players traded.

Gutting the Heart to Save the Body
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey247</b></div><div>vegas won't make this trade. and habs wont either. gally is the next captain and the heart and soul of the team. he sets an example for everyone else and the rookies. he energizes the team. if anything we need more gally's on the team. right now, for the habs to take the next step, thye need to add an elite puck moving D and a regular puck moving D. and up front, thye need suzuki, KK and caufield to develop into stars. thats how this team will be good. but that has to balanced against the decline of price, weber, and petry</div></div>
For me, it's a simple case of are you closer to winning now or not? Will the habs win the cup in the next 2-3 years? if not, then your focus should be on the next age crop in your team.
It is nothing against Gally per se, he is everything you said he is and more; but he is also the most valuable veteran forward with a worldly reputation around the league now, why wait 2-3 years and risk his value dropping if you're not going to win anyway?

Gutting the Heart to Save the Body
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hockey247</b></div><div>trading gallaghar is not the solution to save this team. bringing in puck moving D is the solution.</div></div>
In most ways you're right. But I just think management for the last 10 years since they've been here have been operating like a degenerate gambler; ”maybe a little tweak and twist here and maybe my luck will change"..Enough. In Alex Tuch, you have a player who can right now produce around 70% or so of Gally, still young enough to improve, and it doesn't hurt to have his talented brother also in the system. And Krebs, he is a talented prospect, who can also serve as an insurance policy down the middle if KK fails to live up to his potential... For me, it is an outright win, the only question left to be answered- will Vegas bite?

Guys Id keep moving forward
I think the main problem with this team is that it is always trying to win, like some pathetic gambler chasing his loses. Every year it is trying to win (make playoffs). Ownership and management has just waisted way too many time to truly rebuild. As long as you keep trying to win every year, you will never win.

Caufield in - Romanov to Laval
Caulfield should not be playing any game with the habs anytime soon. This would be the worst time to to call him up! You don't want him to come in with all the hopes and expectations of being the saviour. You want him to come in when the team is doing well and winning games. If you want to destroy the chance of finally having a 40 goal scorer one day, rush him now and destroy him!

No doubting Danault's ability as a solid 2C or an Elite 3C. But 6 straight years of 20 plus goals in Tatar is nothing to sniff at. There is no telling when goals from Gallagher, Anderson, Caufield or Toffoli might dry up. You can never have too many goals.

Giving up 1 year of Chiarot for 2 years of Eller (a player who management knows everything about, no surprises) at the same cap hit, When you have 2 LDs in Norlinder and Guhle who should be ready in the following season is good business to me.

I personally would offer him extra term and go very heavy on signing bonuses to get him to sign for 4.875M (over 3.5M per in signing bonuses) but I think 5.5M per for 6 years would do. Though I can see him getting 6.5M for 7 years on the open market.

I can see that, though it might not hurt to tie him up a bit longer. As for money for Romanov, Suzuki and Dubois; there will always be a market for Allen; by that time, Primeau should be ready to take his spot. And more importantly, Byron would be down to his last year, which will make it easier to mover him as well with the help of maybe a pick. Also, 2-3 years from now, I'd be shocked if the cap was still 81.5M.

Well, by giving up Dubois, CBJ is losing out on 60 pts and they have to make that up somehow; KK alone might not plug that points gap in his first season. However, KK alongside Toffoli is 80 pts for CBJ. Moreover, habs have to move salary in order to have any hope of resigning Dubois and Suzuki. Better yet, moving Toffoli creates room for Caulfied. Good move all around.
