Gutting the Heart to Save the Body

Created by: Inthewrist
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 15, 2021
Published: May 16, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
You can not win by trying to win every year. This team has to come to terms with its new 20 something core; and the host of talented prospects in its system.

Hopefully, Tyler playing fulltime with Suzuki, put up another worldly season (30 goals); and with 2 good seasons under his belt, you'll be able to flip him at the deadline to a team in desperate to win now mode. For a blue chip prospect, who is ready to go and a utility man who can also help.

You keep Nashville on notice about Weber's recapture penalty. And hopefully, with Allen still here for 2 years, another couple of years of seasoning should do Primeau some good.....

trading gallaghar is not the solution to save this team. bringing in puck moving D is the solution.

There are so many things that need to be done or can be done before trading Gally. This should be your last resort.

In most ways you're right. But I just think management for the last 10 years since they've been here have been operating like a degenerate gambler; ”maybe a little tweak and twist here and maybe my luck will change"..Enough. In Alex Tuch, you have a player who can right now produce around 70% or so of Gally, still young enough to improve, and it doesn't hurt to have his talented brother also in the system. And Krebs, he is a talented prospect, who can also serve as an insurance policy down the middle if KK fails to live up to his potential... For me, it is an outright win, the only question left to be answered- will Vegas bite?

vegas won't make this trade. and habs wont either. gally is the next captain and the heart and soul of the team. he sets an example for everyone else and the rookies. he energizes the team. if anything we need more gally's on the team. right now, for the habs to take the next step, thye need to add an elite puck moving D and a regular puck moving D. and up front, thye need suzuki, KK and caufield to develop into stars. thats how this team will be good. but that has to balanced against the decline of price, weber, and petry

For me, it's a simple case of are you closer to winning now or not? Will the habs win the cup in the next 2-3 years? if not, then your focus should be on the next age crop in your team.

It is nothing against Gally per se, he is everything you said he is and more; but he is also the most valuable veteran forward with a worldly reputation around the league now, why wait 2-3 years and risk his value dropping if you're not going to win anyway?

i dont disagree with you. if anything, that would require trading petry, price, weber etc. but either direction you head, you don't trade gallaghar. in fact he's someone you want on a rebuilding team.
