Ken Splashes The Chips

Created by: Dmac19
Team: 2019-20 Detroit Red Wings
Initial Creation Date: Apr. 1, 2019
Published: Apr. 1, 2019
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
At this point I hope that the Wings maintain a high enough draft position to take Bowen Byram. Assuming that happens, he's our pick at #5-6 ish.

Sign Myers - 5 years @ $6.55M AAV
Buy Out Ericsson
Move Daley Out and eat 50% salary

Make an offer to the bread man.

Cap Room available to target Trouba in summer 2020 once Green contract is off the books. More than enough to lock up AA and Mantha as well after expiring RFA deals.

Cap compliant and definitely a skilled group ready to contend with young scoring and a completely revamped D.

personally im against signing myers. we dont need to waste money on a 2-4D when hronek, green/troube, and cholowski can fill those roles. Karlsson or bust.

also while i like byram he is a not a guaranteed 1D. i think 2C is a bigger need. Draft dach, cozens, krebs, zegras instead.

if its me i throw the bank at karlsson and after next year you run with:
Bert-Larkin-Mantha
AA-2019 2nd line C- Zadina
Hirose-Veleno-Ras
Svech-Glenny-Nielsen

Cholo-EK
McIsaac-Hronek
DK-Trouba

Thanks for the review & comment. As much as I'd love Karlsson, I don't realistically see it happening without absolutely blowing the budget to get him. He's not quite the same Karlsson from prior to the Achilles injury and I'm just not sure investing 12M plus into him is the way to go for this team.

Agreed, Byram may not pan out to be the guy, but I think you have to draft him and focus on building a night in and night out top 4 D that's very difficult to compete against.

Regardless, the more I mess around with scenarios, the more I like where the future can be for the wings in another 2-3 years of drafting, developing and signing the correct talent via FA.

Cheers,
Dave

lol Panarin wouldn’t even take that low as a discount, let alone to Detroit. He’d want 11 plus 500k or so since it’s detroit

I'm pretty sure if Winnipeg can't sign Trouba or if he's traded Myers becomes a priority and his price will go up big time and I'm not sure Myers is worth the $6.5M you have him signed for.

If Ericsson was going to be bought out it would've been done a couple years ago. As much as I'd like to see him bought out I'm afraid we are stuck with him for one more year.

Panarin will sign for 8 digits and I don't think the beach Panarin wants is the on the Detroit River.

You think Panarin is getting 11M? he's a great player, but I have a hard time seeing him sniff 11M this summer.

Everyone wants Panarin your telling me someone won't offer him $11M I think it could go as high as $12M. Is he worth it probably not.

I think 11M is a massive overpayment. If he gets 12M what does Hall get the following yr, what does Marner get this summer being younger and IMO more talented?

I agree but a with everyone is bidding on him someone is bound to do something stupid. Maybe a GM that's on the hot seat who really thinks Panarin is the last piece needed to win a cup. I also think there is a very good chance Myers and Gardiner if they leave their current teams they will be overpaid as well.

That's true, can't disregard the fact that someone might just toss a bag of money at the guy. Can't blame him for saying yes. I wouldn't do it, but maybe there is a GM desperate enough to make a splash.

Gardiner and Myers I think will also both get paid. Should be somewhere in the mid-to-high 6 range for Myers, maybe a little less on Gardiner's camp. Will see though, just hoping wings sniff some luck in the draft to be honest LOL.
