EDM has to move on from what they gave for him as it is now irrelevant. EDM needs wingers and depth badly!
EDM needs a lot of things. Wingers, D-men and a good, consistent netminder. The problem is that they keep "whiffing" at the draft, especially in the 1st round. Puljujärvi was meant to be a powerhouse winger, but he's not achieved the success they hoped. Yamamoto was meant to be a little firecracker, but he's struggling at the AHL level. And, of course, you have Yakupov. I don't know what to think with EDM now. Before, I thought the environment was toxic for young players, but Drai and McDavid both progressed into top tier talents. I know McDavid would have been a success regardless, but Drai had his issues (skating) and he's overcome them very nicely in EDM. Moreover, the struggling players that have left EDM (Yak) haven't exactly gone on to have stellar careers. This would suggest that they just have poor scouts who are picking the wrong talents for their organisation.
Anyway, back to the trade, I agree the trade makes sense in terms of EDM getting some wingers. However, in moving Larsson, it's just a case of "taking from Peter to pay Paul". They'd be addressing one need by exposing another. EDMs solution to their problem is to start drafting better. If Yak, Pul and Yamamoto had become the successes everyone thought they could be, EDM would be a much better team than they are now. They'd still be terrible at the back and have no goaltending, but at least they'd have assets in order to solve those problems or the scoring that they wouldn't matter. In summary, I don't think there is an easy fix for EDM and, therefore, I don't think the trade proposed will be particularly enticing. Moving Larsson for some good, but not elite, winger prospects isn't going to make them a better team next season. Too many holes to fill.
