Is this enough for Marner

Created by: nyi20

Description
How much more is it going to take.

Isles fans, tell me you wouldn't do this in a heartbeat. Also hoping the cap rises a few million so Isles can pay Barzy, Pullock, and Toews.

Barzal got 85 points last year...plays a harder position (center)...and doesn't have NEARLY the help around him. ALSO, TOR might find themselves in a though spot since Marner got 94 points. I don't think anyone is jumping up and down to help out Dubas.

***EDIT*** I don't think $8.5M gets it done...

Would you trade Barzal for a similar package to what's being offered Toronto? If the answer is no, then neither would Toronto. They are in win now mode, offering a nhl player and futures doesn't fit their strategy.

ok, I do agree with position. They're both in the playoffs and yes win now mode. To me the difference is TOR has a real problem on their hands (cap wise) and I do think their main cast...can help elevate other players to be better than they probably really are. I don't think Kasperi or Johnsson are going to be this good away from Matthews. Right now they don't even play against the opposing teams shutdown line and still get to play next to Matthews. It's becoming the age old PIT winger argument. When you play with multiple HOFers (I get it, Tavares/Matthews are there yet...lots of time, but still GREAT players today) then your play gets elevated. When KK or AJ go to another team and make their money...they're going to be expected to do more.

***EDIT*** also, you don't trade a #1C for basically anything. Center is such a critical position.

They move Nylander if worse comes to worse. Even still the offer from OP isn't enough and the fact still remains that it would start with Barzal. Whether they would do it or not is irrelevant. OP asked if it was enough and the answer is no.

I think they could flip all these players and get more than "market value", but I hear what you're saying.

As exo2769 said I would love to know how you are going to pay Marner? He is going to want $8+ and TOR simply can’t do it as currently constructed. And yes, please keep telling me how TOR has no use for a top pairing puck-moving defenseman like Leddy... you really want Barzal? His ELC is up after next year.. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO PAY HIM??? TOR holds very little leverage in this situation. Teams know TOR can’t afford Marner and they will use that to their advantage to get him through a trade, as I proposed, or an offer sheet. An offer sheet of 8million+ gets you 2 first round picks, a second rounder and a third rounder. You said picks and prospects doesn’t fit your “win now” strategy. My trade offer is a top pair D (Leddy), a former 1st round pick (Bellows), a former 2nd round pick (Wilde) and 2 first rounders. It comes down to whether TOR wants another team to offer sheet Marner and walk away with picks, or go with a trade to acquire pieces that can help now and in the future.

Outside of Leddy, every other piece you have is a scratch ticket. They could be be winners, but could equally be losers. Marner is also the one guy that seems to show up against Boston...why would Toronto trade that away?

Marner
Matthews
Tavares

Those are the only 3 guys that's I'd say are "untouchable" for Toronto. Btw I'm not a fan of either team so I have no dog in this fight. Actually I'd prefer Toronto did this trade because as a B's fan this deal makes them worse
