  5. 2021 3rd round pick (BOS)

Conditional 2020 2nd: If Boston reaches the SCF in 2020, a 2020 1st round draft pick will be sent instead.

Taking advantage of Shark's cap space. Heinen would probably only cost 2~3M while Meier will cost at least 4M+. Shark really don't have some contracts they would want to move and they are in a really tight cap situation, even if they don't sign Karlsson or Nyquist. They have to sign Thorton, Pavelski, Donskoi... And after this year, they have to sign Melker Karlsson and 4 Dmen. Not the greatest of cap. So on my take, they give up Meier to free up some cap and try Heinen to play into Meier's position. JFK is a decent middle 6 prospect, and Zboril is a top 4D, plus sharks is known to have a good training system for young Dmen, and maybe Zboril becomes really good and they can either keep him or ship him off for something. Throwing some picks at the Sharks because they kinda need more value to get the trade through. Thing being, another team can just offer sheet Meier and the Sharks will lose him for less, and that is why they kinda must accept this deal, unless there is a better deal.

You'd have to pay Timo more than that. Probably close to Nylander money

thanks. this of course is only for the regular season so Miller will be in, Backes will be in. Chara isn't the problem for goals and yeah. Looks like a Leaf killing machine lineup

Offer sheet him BOT and maybe not do a "five-for-one" lopsided trade.
You'll have to lose picks 1st and 3rd in the sheet offer of course. And, as 'Mike' mentions in the Detroit post TM's Cap hit would then be >US$6M!!!! ouch
So you're still fully capped-out (more US$$$ now) and you likely have to continue trading or waive some guy(s) (Backes anyone)...

Tough call...
I don't like either scenario but there's your non stupid, constructive and conclusive reply...later skater

I get how you took this and I don't completely disagree. I get where I need to trade or waive guys but whatever you do this off season, you will have the same exact problem. I get how the offersheet works but I doubt we will be able to get him as other teams are looking at that and SJS could trade someone like Kane to keep him and a few prospects. I get where you are coming from. Thanks for that reply, much better than that first one

Out of curiosity, what do you think of Morgan Reilly compared to Chara. Chara doesn’t play on the PP, so let’s just talk about offensive production 5 on 5. Reilly has 14 even strength points this year. Barrie, who I think you were a fan of at the time of the trade if I recall correctly, has 7 or 8. So would you be surprised to find out that Chara has 12 even strength points, and as many goals as those two offensive dynamos combined?

rielly has been awful this season. hes a very flawed player who makes a ton of mistakes all the time but has they physical skills to make up for them. for example he may blow his coverage on a play but once he gets the puck back he is able to make an exceptional play to move the puck up the ice. it would have been a lot better if he wouldnt have blown his coverage so he would have been given a chance to make a simple but effective play but instead he is forced to make the hard play. i think rielly is injured so now he is still making the same mistakes he always has but he isnt able to make up for them anymore. barrie was used in a terrible role under babcock. he was only put in a shut down role where he cant move the puck and jump up in the rush. those are the only things hes good at, hes amazing offensively and has always been bad without the puck in his own end. now that hes been allowed to join the rush and do the things hes good at he has scored in 3 straight games.

chara isnt good in the regular season, he cant move the puck at all. the only thing that makes him good is his ability to get away with interference. he is very good at using his long stick to prevent zone entries and is built for the playoffs. the stuff that he gets away with wont get called in the playoffs but will in the regular season. in the playoffs he is legitimately a good defenseman because of his style of play and he knows what he can and cant get away with (which i think is a skill of its own). rielly and barrie cant suppress a shot to save their lives but once they get possession of the puck they turn into some of the best defenseman in the league but chara is one of the best defenseman in the league without the puck (in the playoffs) rielly and barrie will get more points as the season goes on.

as for the barrie trade i was a fan of it at the moment of the trade but as the summer went on i wasnt such a big fan. i have always liked kerfoot and the contract they gave him. rosen is a good 3rd pairing defenseman but nothing to lose my mind over. Kadri can be a good 2nd line center but i couldnt trust him in the playoffs and he was making to much to be a 3c. The term left on kadri's deal made the trade less appealing but especially in the last 3 games it has been looking like a good trade. especially up until keefe was hired the trade didnt look good but since hes been looking like himself it looks like getting a #2 defenseman making 2.75 is good

Chara can’t move the puck? The guy still snaps it tape to tape pretty well. Chara’s .9 PIM per game doesn’t exactly support the theory that he’s this monster that interferes all the time but gets away with it in the playoffs. That’s like 70th in the league. It was .9 last year too. .8 the year before that.

sure he can but in terms of all the other defenseman in the nhl he is towards the bottom, he isnt the worst by a long shot but he still isnt great. what im saying is that he gets away with so much, if you look back at the playoffs or the playoffs this year when they come you will see the majority of they things he does are interference. good on him for dong it because it isnt being called but it is interference
