Swap Lashoff with Daley and it's much more realistic. Lashoff is an AHL player, and TBL needs NHL players (which amazingly, Daley is).

I agree that Daley would be better for Tampa, I was just trying to save Tampa the cap space. Wings might need to retain most of Daleys salary but that's fine with me.

I don't know I think moving Callahan is more for just to fit under cap are they even going to use Daley? Lashoff they can send him to the AHL and not worry or it might be even better to send a draft pick. I don't think Callahan's contract is big enough to pull a first round pick a buyout is $2.7M in year 1 and $1.6M year in year 2. So trading Daley is worse for Tampa than the buyout would be. So I think if you want the 1st make it as easy as possible and that might be a AHL player or just a draft pick. But maybe I'm wrong maybe a Tampa fan can chime in on the subject?

I do like the idea of turning a 3rd to a 1st though.

From what I've heard and read Hicketts seems to be on his way out and The Wings are loosing patients with Saarijarvi. Has anyone else heard anything?

TBL needs 4 defensemen this offseason, and they have $10mm in cap (with the $3mm bump). By trading them Daley, retaining, and taking back Callahan, that would give them $7mm extra, and a serviceable 5/6 dman. They may graduate 1 guy from the AHL, but they don't have Dmen ready in the AHL, with the exception of Foote (and even that's hit and miss). With Daley, then would need at least 2 dmen (with Foote being his partner) and some cap space to do it.

TBL still has to sign Point (who is going to command at least $7mm minimum), plus reup with Paquette and Erne (who won't cost much). But also find 3 dmen (or 2 if Foote graduates).

I haven't heard anything like that on Hicketts or Saar. Hicketts is waiver eligible next year, so he's going to make the big club or be exposed. Saar has a little bit of time still, and was at times GR's 2nd best dman, but he's not the offensive dynamo that everyone thought he'd be. He is in danger of getting jumped by McIsaac, Lindstrom, Setkov, etc.

But, with each of them, they could be better in the NHL than the AHL, just because of the talent gap. While offensive players on the opposing team are more talented, there are many more players playing a 200ft game in the NHL than in the AHL. There are plenty of guys that showed better in the NHL than the AHL, so for both of them, this preseason is going to be huge!

You can retain 50% salary, or 1.65mm-ish on Daley. If you take Callahan (5.875), plus Daley, that would give them $7.525mm in extra cap. That's worth something (maybe a 1st round pick).

Your right they do need couple D but if we are sending Daley I don’t see them sending a first back to Detroit. But wouldn’t you have to count Daley as half a defenseman? The guy does make Helm look durable.
