Would you consider trading Klefbom or Nurse?

I would be EXTREMELY hesitant to trade Nurse or Klefbom.

I love Klef but you can pretty much count on him being hurt for 15-25% of the season. If another defenceman comes along who costs about the same and is the same age, I consider the move...but I don't actively shop him.

Nurse is interesting. The Oilers NEED to sign him as soon as their able to a long-term, team friendly deal (think Klefbom/Larsson). If he wants more than I think you explore a trade.....hopefully if it gets to this (which I don't think it would) the Oilers have already brought in enough defensive help to give you options on what you look for in a trade.

Klefbom and Nurse are the only current Oilers defenseman with any experience in the NHL who can move the puck....and they are mediocre at that. The only way you move them is for an upgrade in player/term/salary.

It’s not an excuse bud, the oilers have legitimate prospects now. Jones and bear are both good puck movers and have two years of AHL experience under their belt.

I understand where you're coming from....but you saw first hand how big the jump to the NHL was for both Bear (GP 18, G 1, A 3, -18) and C. Jones (GP 17, G 1, A 5, -9).

One of the biggest issues with the Oilers over the past 13 years has been their assumption that players with little to no NHL experience can survive/succeed at the NHL level. We've seen this with depth forwards, young draft picks and European players at all positions.

It's great that the Oilers have some legitimate prospects at the AHL level, and that's a big reason why I believe they can afford to use their 2019 Draft picks as assets to acquire NHL-level talent and/or include in packages to clear cap space. Especially since the Oilers won't have any type of cohesive management structure and/or vision in place by the draft. The Oilers need to continue to let the Oilers prospects over-develop in the AHL, and have legitimate NHL-calibre players to teach them and help them grow whenever they are called up.

It’s not all about the points bud LOL, maybe watch the games. Jones was looking like a solid puck moving defenceman, but was forced to play up the lineup because of the injuries to Klefbom and Russell. If everyone is healthy and if Caleb jones is playing on the third pair, he’ll be just fine.

Correct. Jones played with a variety of defensemen on 3rd pair this year, spending time with all of Garrison, Wideman, Manning, Petrovic and Gravel - NONE of whom are NHL defenders - and broke even with 3 GF and 3 GA with these guys. That's quality for a rookie.
