Edmonton receives Vesey and Pionk.

Rangers receive Gagner, Manning, Puljujarvi and a 2nd.

Pionk equivalent to a 2nd and Manning.

Vesey equivalent to Gagner and Puljujarvi, whose stock is relatively low right now as a reclamation project, regardless of where he was Drafted.

so who says no ultimately in the end considering the teams position?

It's not an ideal trade, but it's something. Clears Pionk out. Pick up the 2nd. Roll the dice with Puljujarvi. No long lasting Cap issues by taking on Gagner and Manning.

Exactly. Rangers don't need the space yet and imagine Puljujarvi clicking with Kakko? thats HUGE

On Jeff Gorton's behalf, I say hell no!

$8.3 million in cap hits? Even with Vesey going the other way..then, Puljajarvi is to be re-signed not to mention our own RFAs to be re-upped?

Second rounder included or not, this isn't a good deal. This is a one-sided whitewash.

Jeff Gorton..me..Willy Wonka.. You name it--all say no!

I'm not sure Edmonton would go for it either. JP and a 2nd is a pretty steep price to pay for $5M cap savings for just one year - especially when next year will be considered a transition year where they aren't trying to contend.

The problem is, on the other side, the Rangers will be in contention. And now, trying to rummage through the East with aged Kyle Brodziak and Kris Russell is going to create more work for this front office.

Sam Gagner fits the style of the Oilers; as an offensive-minded team, having him at either forward spot on the third line is ideal. I know that prospects like Gambardella and McLeod are close, and they'll need roster space for them. But this will not do it.

Ottawa, who'll need cap hits to reach the floor, will be a better place to consider this trade..but not the New York Rangers.
