So teams aren't going to do the Leafs favour. Are they all going to band together and not offer fair trades for assets TO may want to move?
Let's talk about fair values.
Do you really think Brown is going to pull a 2nd rounder? Some would argue he's worth that perhaps, but the market isn't wide open on a player like that with a $2.1M cap hit.
Zaits isn't as useless as everyone makes him out to be, but do you think he's going to pull a 4th round pick?
I see armchairs by leafs fans that have;
Brown = 2nd round pick
Zaits = 2nd or 3rd or 4th round picks
Kap = 1st and 3rd or 1st and prospects
Kap = Pesce or Spurgeon...those are the best ones! lol
Doubt any of those are happening. Whether they are fair value or not one can argue either way. Bottom line, the Leafs aren't starting any negotiations from a position of strength. Rule #1 to negotiating. It doesn't mean the Leafs don't have options, but teams aren't bending over backwards for any of those players. Kap will be the best option, but again, negotiating with against a team for RFA rights on a B level player against a team with no cap space; that generally doesn't result in true market value coming back for that team.
