Is that the new narrative? A professional athlete making $12M this season wasn't in game shape so he played poorly for 54 games; got it. tears of joy

I don't "desperately want" Nylander. I'd much rather have a A type of player like Skinner, Panarin, Hoffman as you can see by the teams I've created but for B+ guys, I've made a couple teams with Nylander and many more with Dzingel. Hawks need another winger in a supporting role; Nylander, Nyquist or Dzingel can both fill that void.

That said, Toronto is cap screwed and prime for the plucking!

No they aren't. Only morons who don't pay attention think that. Teams that are in cap trouble have really bad contracts they can't move. TO has too many talented players and moving a Kapanen or a Johnsson or a Kadri or even Zaitsev isn't hard. They are all quality players that will bring some sort of return. Brown will net at least a 3rd and he's the lowest value of all the players on the team. As a hawks fan you should know this better than anyone. Your problem was bad contracts that you had to send a value player with to move. Bickel and Kruger and now Seabrook and soon Saad.

Teams aren't doing Toronto any favors and every team knows they have to move pieces as they aren't going to be cap compliant. They aren't "screwed" but they are cap restricted would be the right word. What's the market on Zaits or Brown? Some would argue Brown could get a 2nd...will he? Absolutely not. Brown may not net a 3rd, for sure a 4th. Prime example right there. Everyone knows the Leafs can't sign Johnsson, Marner and Kap for their market value; are offer sheets going to come in? We'll know July 1st. If they lose anyone to offer sheets and that's a possibility, that would suck no?

"Soon Saad"....only morons think Saad is not valuable.

Saad is a two way forechecking physical player with more hits and takeways, as you'd expect from a physical two way player, BUT also more points and goals per game then Nylander. Saad ironically also had to anchor his own line on the 3rd line...ironic no? Saad for $6M and 2 years left looks like a sweet deal next to Nylander's after this past season.

Yes, because you say so... marner has never held his own line. Despite being a natural centre as well. It was nylander who was drawn upon to carry his own line two seasons. Funny isn’t it.

Funny how this season demonstrated Nylander can't huh?

So teams aren't going to do the Leafs favour. Are they all going to band together and not offer fair trades for assets TO may want to move?

Let's talk about fair values.

Do you really think Brown is going to pull a 2nd rounder? Some would argue he's worth that perhaps, but the market isn't wide open on a player like that with a $2.1M cap hit.

Zaits isn't as useless as everyone makes him out to be, but do you think he's going to pull a 4th round pick?

I see armchairs by leafs fans that have;

Brown = 2nd round pick
Zaits = 2nd or 3rd or 4th round picks
Kap = 1st and 3rd or 1st and prospects
Kap = Pesce or Spurgeon...those are the best ones! lol

Doubt any of those are happening. Whether they are fair value or not one can argue either way. Bottom line, the Leafs aren't starting any negotiations from a position of strength. Rule #1 to negotiating. It doesn't mean the Leafs don't have options, but teams aren't bending over backwards for any of those players. Kap will be the best option, but again, negotiating with against a team for RFA rights on a B level player against a team with no cap space; that generally doesn't result in true market value coming back for that team.

Well if you looked at any of my teams I have posted you'd see that I see Brown getting a 3rd from Edmonton. That is what I think he'll get.

I rarely if ever trade Zaitsev but I have said many times that I think if he was traded, it would be for a modest return like 4th or 5th. He's worth more but if the Leafs are trading him, it's for a cap dump which lowers the value.

I never trade Marleau, that's silly.

I have traded Kapanen mostly for Greenway and would be open to any move that gets an elc player who's has shown the right tools. Speed, size and tenaciousness. Unlike most Leaf fans I see the lack of a guy who can crash the net on Matthews wing a big problem for him. Paired with Nylander I think Matthews will score 60 goals in a full healthy season. If there was also a guy who was big enough to get to the night and clean up Matthews garbage and give Nylander another option, they could dummy teams all the time. So I use Kap to find a guy like that.

And where have you seen me make critical comments of your armchair? The only recent one I can remember is when you fielded 20 guys; which no team does for an entire season. The only thing I see you put that I don't agree with regularly is you have Kap signing at $2.5M (even $2M once recently) which I'm confident Kap will ask for offer sheets at that point and I'm sure there will be at least 3 teams out there willing to pay him $3.25 to $3.5m. But again, that doesn't mean teams are going to give up a 1st and 3rd round picks or 1st and prospect to pay Kap $3.5M; IMO the Leafs would find trouble getting a 1st rounder for him given he's a RFA on a team with no cap room provided they sign Marner and Johnsson prior.

If Kap is a problem he can be traded. And I am sure they can get more than a 2nd round pick.
